It’s safe to say that the highly anticipatedCyberpunk 2077hasn’t had the smoothest of releases. Along with a plethora of bugs, particularly on the console iterations of the game, consumers have begun turning against the once-beloved CD Projekt Red. Despite the backlash, there are plenty of gamers who have been thoroughly enjoying the open-world game so far and believe that it is fully deserving of itsIGN Game of the Year nomination.

Regardless of which side of the fence players sit on, it’s clear to see thatCyberpunk 2077has a ton of potential that CD Projekt Red will hopefully fully realize withthe upcoming updates. 10Deus Ex: Human Revolution (90)
The third entry in the critically acclaimedDeus Exseries,Deus Ex: Human Revolutionis a prequel to the originalDeus Exwhich was released in the year 2000.
Set in 2027, the gametasks players with discovering the motivations behind a deadly attack from a mysterious organization, and explores the themes of a fast-changing cyberpunk world. As well as the excellent combat mechanics and atmospheric setting,Deus Ex: Human Revolutionis remembered fondly for its excellent narrative that was heavily affected by the player’s choices.
9Borderlands 2 (91)
2K Games’Borderlandsseries hit the ground running in 2009 with its fantastic first entry that introduced the gaming industry to its huge open-world and plethora of charismatic characters and enemy types. Despite the warm reception of Gearbox Software’s creation, the game suffered from a few issues that prevented it from reaching the elusive 90 mark on Metacritic.
The potential was there for everyone to see though, and Gearbox Software reached it when they teamed up with 2K Games again to releaseBorderlands 2three years later.Borderlands 3is also worth checking out, althoughBorderlands 2is the pinnacle of the series so far and it can probably be found at a good price.
8Overwatch (91)
Overwatchis an ideal choice for anyone wanting to take their futuristic combat skills and test them online. Set sometime between now and 2100, Blizzard’sOverwatchputs players in two teams of six and lets them battle it out to complete varying objectives.

7System Shock 2 (92)
Set in a cyberpunk 2114,System Shock 2strands players on a ship with a crew that has been infected by a mutating disease; makingSystem Shock 2a great option for those looking for a survival horror take on a cyberpunk future.
Released in 1999,System Shock 2was lauded by fans and critics for how ahead of its time the game was with its RPG gameplay and realistic level design and physics.
6Fallout 3 (93)
Set in a post-apocalyptic future devastated by a nuclear apocalypse (which coincidentally took place in 2077), it’s safe to say that Bethesda’sFallout 3doesn’t have the bright lights and glamour ofCyberpunk 2077’s Night City.
Fallout 3tends to get a bad wrap today, with skeptics believing that titles likeFallout: New VegasandHorizon Zero Dawnhave created far more compelling open-worlds. However, its important to remember just how revolutionaryFallout 3was for its time, and how incredible stepping out of the vault for the first time was.
5Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic (93)
Technically speaking,Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republictakes place “a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…” but as anyone who’s watched aStar Warsfilm before will know, the setting feels far more futuristic than historic.
Knights of the Old Republicis far from being just fan-service or a game that onlyStar Warsfans will enjoy; it’s one of the best Role-Playing games ever-released and will suck players into the immersive game world with its fantastic narrative and sub-plots.
4Mass Effect 2 (96)
Despite lacking the cyberpunk setting of some of the other games on this list, if this list was ordered by least to most recommended forCyberpunk 2077fans, thenMass Effect 2would be competing withDeus Ex: Human Revolutionfor the top spot.

It’s not often that a game with an eye-watering Metascore of 97 will miss out on the top spot of a list like this, butHalo: Combat Evolvednarrowly falls short for having a lower User Score than the top spot.
Halo: Combat Evolvedmay lack the open-world andcomplex narrative ofCyberpunk 2077, but as far as futuristic FPS games go,the firstHalogame is one of the best ever released.
1Metroid Prime (97)
Much like the aforementionedHalo: Combat Evolved,Metroid Primelacks the RPG side ofCyberpunk 2077but its incredible action-FPS gameplay alone makes it an ideal pick for anyone who is even remotely interested in the genre.
Metroid Primeis far from being simply a shoot em' up FPS, as the game implements tons of other genres and gameplay mechanics such as puzzle-solving, and platforming with Samus' ball morphing ability that makesMetroid Primeone of gaming’s most well-paced and enjoyable games from start to finish.
