The following contains spoilers for Episode 6 of A Couple of Cuckoos, “Is my fate going to change?” now streaming onCrunchyroll.
Out of the six episodes ofA Couple of Cuckoosthat have been released thus far, five of them were good, withthe last two being especially spectacular. So all things considered, it’s been quite a good run.

On the flip side, it also means the hype for every new episode will be higher than the one before. While that is generally a good thing for the overall popularity of the series, it also means the disappointment will be tremendous if the quality of the new episodesfails to meet the viewers’ expectations. So how does this new episode compare to previous ones? Is it as enjoyable to watch as episode six?

Previously on A Couple of Cuckoos
There was a lot of great stuff that happened in the previous episode. Let’s start with the most hilarious one. Erika and Hiro planned to visit Erika’s house, the real one, not the one where Erika lives together with Nagi. Thinking that he finally got the entire house for himself, Nagi stripped out of his clothes andwalked all over the house buck naked.
Everything turned into chaos when Erika and Hiro suddenly entered the house. Wanting to hide the fact that she lives together with Nagi, Erika tried her best to distract Hiro while Nagi frantically hid all of his stuff while still completely nude. The whole incident was just so hilarious.

After that, Nagi and Erika went to visit Hiro’s house, which was apparently one of the biggest temples in the area. We got to see Hiro helping her parents out as a shrine maiden, and there was also a scene where Nagi got totalk to Hiro about the truth behind her engagement.
The Story of Episode 7: Is My Fate Going to Change?
This episode is all about their school’s field trip to Kamakura. For the trip, every student has to form a group and travel together. So Nagi, Hiro, Erika, and one of their classmates,a boy named Shion, ended up in the same group.
In order to help Nagi spend more time with Hiro, Erika decided to hang out with Shion, who is apparently her fan. The plan actually worked rather well. Hiro and Nagi can freely collect the stamps of the temples there, while Erika is out with Shion taking pictures for her social media.

However, rather than feeling glad that he got to hang out with Hiro, Nagi ends up always glancing at Erika and Shion talking and laughing together. And then the episode ends withErika and Nagi talking to each other at the beach, with the sunset behind their backs.
A New Character, At Last!
For the last six episodes, Nagi, Erika, and Hiro have been dominating the screen time, with Erika appearing the most in the first three episodes, while Hiro occupied the last three. Sure, there are other characters that appeared here and there, such as Sachi and their parents. But for the most part, we only get to see those three main characters on the screen.
Thankfully, we get to see a new character in this episode.Shion may not have anything interesting going on for him right now, but he is the first classmate that the main characters spend a rather substantial amount of time interacting with.
Adding new characters is always a good thing to do. Not only to expand the story, but also to help develop the other characters, and also makes the world feel more lived in. Hopefully we could see more from Shion in the subsequent episodes.
Lovesickness
If the previous episodes were all about fun and comedy, then this one is all about romance and drama. There are several instanceswhen the two heroinesseem to give some sort of cryptic hints about their true feelings to Nagi.
As for the man himself, well, this episode makes it clear that even he doesn’t really understand his feelings. This is the episode where Nagi is actually in a dilemma. He is clearly suffering from acute lovesickness for Hiro, but he alsounconsciously feels something towards Erika. From what happens in this episode, it looks like things will only get more complicated from here. And we all are here for it.
In a way, this episode takes a completely different direction than the previous one. In episode 6, we got nonstop side-splitting comedy. On the other hand, episode 7 gives us a stirring drama. Both are good in their own way, but for those who love the vibe of the sixth episode, then this one might not be as entertaining to watch. And that is how it is supposed to be. After all, this is a RomCom anime, so it needs to have bothhilarious comedyanddramatic romancein it, right?
