While FromSoftware’s upcomingArmored Core 6: Fires of Rubiconwon’t be a Soulslike game, it should still have the studio’s established brand of high level difficulty that fans have come to expect. With the incredible success FromSoftware has enjoyed from theDark Soulsgames andElden Ring, one would think it would stick with the popular genre it created, butArmored Core 6is going to be something very different from the studio’s more recent titles.
Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubiconwas announced at The Game Awards 2022with an impressive cinematic trailer that established the game’s themes and setting. Details on what exactlyArmored Core 6is bringing to the table have been hard to come by since the game’s initial announcement, but now producer Yasunori Ogura has revealed some more information on the upcoming mech action game.

Speaking at the Taipei Game Show, Ogura promised thatArmored Core 6will have a “stiff challenge,” keeping it in line with FromSoftware’s other games. Whereas games likeDark SoulsandElden Ringlets players level up to make things a bit easier,Armored Core 6is more about customizing mechsfor players to get a leg up over their enemies.
Ogura also touched on Hidetaka Miyazaki’s involvement withArmored Core 6. Miyazaki has served as director on multiple FromSoftware games, includingElden Ring, and so some may have wanted to see him take full control ofArmored Core 6as well. WhileMiyazaki is not directingArmored Core 6, according to Ogura, he still has played a role in the game’s map design, combat, and “other core elements.” Miyazaki served as the “Initial Game Director” forArmored Core 6before the game was handed to Masaru Yamamura.
Armored Core 6’s release date is planned for later this year, so fans should be able to expect a lot more information about the game to come to light in the months ahead. In the meantime, some FromSoftware fans may be wondering exactly what Miyazaki is working on sinceArmored Core 6development is being led by Yamamura. Miyazaki’s next project is a mystery at this point, though he hinted thatElden RingDLC could be on the wayduring his Game of the Year acceptance speech at The Game Awards.
Whatever Miyazaki is working on next, FromSoftware fans can at least look forward toArmored Core 6. And sinceArmored Core 6has a completely original story, fans don’t even have to worry about playing the other games in the franchise before jumping into the new release later this year.
