Assassin’s Creed Red Could Pave the Way for a WW2 Assassin’s Creed Game
Fans Have Been Waiting Years for Some Assassin’s Creed Settings
With over a dozen mainline entries already released, theAssassin’s Creedfranchisehas covered more than its fair share of historical periods. But there are still a handful of settings that fans have been desperate to see for years now, and Ubisoft knows it. Every few years, Ubisoft will release a survey that asks players to pick their idealAssassin’s Creedsetting from a list of multiple options. Over the last decade or so, the same choices kept cropping up. Fans kept picking them, but Ubisoft seemingly decided to keep turning them down.
Feudal Japan was one such option, appearing in both the 2011 and 2017Ubisoft surveys. There are a few other options that have cropped up several times over the last decade and that are still yet to come to the series, including Medieval China, the Spanish Conquistador invasion of the Americas, and the Russian Revolution. For years, fans have picked these options hoping that one day they’d get to see them come to fruition, and nowAssassin’s Creed Redhas swung that door wide open.
For the longest time, it seemed like a Feudal Japan-setAssassin’s Creedgame was just a pipe dream, with Ubisoft seemingly ignoring the clear desire for one for years. With the release ofgames likeGhost of Tsushima, that pipe dream seemed to move even further away. But thenAssassin’s Creed Redwas announced, and now it feels like anything could be on the table, even a setting as risky as World War 2.
A WW2 Assassin’s Creed Game Already Has Some Great Foundations
Though it’s rarely appeared on Ubisoft’s official surveys, many fans have been very vocal about their desire to see anAssassin’s Creedgame set in World War 2for a while now. This desire was only exacerbated back in 2014 with the release ofAssassin’s Creed Unity, which featured a Time Anomaly mission that saw players scale the Eiffel Tower and gun down fighter planes at the height of World War 2. Though this section is very brief, the unique atmosphere, architecture, and gameplay of this segment is still living rent-free in the minds of many fans.
This Time Anomaly feature was explored even further inAssassin’s Creed Syndicatejust a year later. By accessing a rift in the north ofAssassin’s Creed Syndicate’s London map, players get transported to a World War 1-era Tower Bridge, which is currently under siege by enemy forces. A bit more fleshed-out thanAC Unity’s WW2 aside,AC Syndicate’s WW1 segmenttakes place over seven missions, letting players immerse themselves in this unique setting even further. While a WW2 setting has been hotly demanded for years, a WW1Assassin’s Creedgame could also tick a lot of the same boxes.
