Ubisoft made some major announcements on July 21 that will impact its upcoming line-up. First and foremost, it announced that the highly anticipatedAvatar: Frontiers of Pandoragame was getting delayedinto the 2023-2024 fiscal year. It has also been reported that a total of four games at the company have been canceled, with two of those beingSplinter Cell VRandGhost Recon Frontline.

While this is some shuffling around, it’s not necessarily a bad thing for the company.Splinter Cell VRwould be a loss, as fans want a new game (even if not exactly VR), andFrontline’s reception was underwhelmingat best. It seems, ultimately, that Ubisoft is putting a lot of expectation onto itsAssassin’s Creedfranchise.

According to a new report, multipleAssassin’s Creedprojects are in development. This isn’t necessarily groundbreaking to anyone familiar with the franchise’s development cycle or Ubisoft’s large size, and many games have been reported about thus far—yet this details a new one.Assassin’s Creed Redis a codenamed project that is said to be part of the largerInfinityproject, and it’s possible this title is theJapan-setAssassin’s Creedgamethat has been previously reported on.

However,Assassin’s Creed Infinityis a little confusing. What players should know is that it’s a “hub” game with multiple settings, and it’s set to be the next mainline entry in theAssassin’s Creedfranchise. Details are scarce, but considering it’s a live-service title, it stands to reasonInfinitywill launch with a handful of settings and be expanded down the road. It sounds likeAssassin’s Creed Redis one of those titles and is reportedly set in Asia, possibly Japan specifically.

It should be noted that another rumor suggested a newAssassin’s Creedsetting would be the Aztecs. It’s possible this Aztec setting is one of the launch locations forAssassin’s Creed Infinityor it could be tied to another project. Outside ofAssassin’s Creed Red/AC Infinity,a smallerAssassin’s Creed Riftproject is reported to be in development. It is said to featureBasim and set in Baghdad.

Beyond even those, there are hints at anAssassin’s Creed VRproject (codenamed Nexus), unless Ubi is pulling out of VR completely and it’s one of the other rumored titles. Then, some fans believe anAC1remake is in the works. Overall, there’s clearly a lot in the works—perhaps even more than this—but ifAC Reddoes take players to Japan, it’ll likely make long-time fans very happy.
