Avowedis one of the most hotly anticipated RPGs coming with the next-generation consoles. When the trailer dropped earlier this year, many RPG fans saw the new game’s first-person perspective and fantasy setting and hoped it could beSkyrim’s spiritual successor.

Avowedwill be exclusive to PC and the Xbox Series X. While this will disappoint RPG fans who were hoping to get the game on the PS5, it also means there’s one good reason fans of Obsidian Entertainment should keep an eye on December 2020 for more news about the upcoming game.

The Game Awards 2020

The Xbox Series X was officially announced atThe Game Awards 2019with a world premiere presentation last December. ThoughAvowedis not due for release until at least 2022, it is a big draw to the new Xbox, and it is likely that fans could see a presentation or new trailer from Obsidian to hype up the Xbox exclusives. Indeed, the Xbox Series X launches globally on November 10, exactly one month before The Game Awards, and there’s no doubt Microsoft will be keen to stick the landing with some big reveals.

AlthoughAvowedwill not be an Xbox launch title, Microsoft will still likely reveal more about the project as part of its ongoing campaign to gain exclusives among the top RPG developers. With theacquisition of Zenimax Media Inc by Microsoft, the company now owns both RPG giants Bethesda and Obsidian Entertainment. While this makes it more likely that extremely anticipated RPG titles likeThe Elder Scrolls 6will be Xbox exclusives, at least for a timed period,The Elder Scrolls 6also isn’t due for release for several more years at least.

Avowed Pillars of Eternity 2

The game is rumored to be set for a 2025 release, and Bethesda has already announced that it is only to release after the studio’snew IPStarfield. Microsoft will likely want to remind fans of the long-term reasons to invest in an Xbox for the exclusive RPGs, but will need to keep theElder Scrollscrowd drawn in with more information aboutAvowedto tide them over.

Potential Reveals

So far, Obsidian hasn’t released any gameplay, only a cinematic trailer which revealed the game’s setting in thePillars of Eternityworld of Eoraand its first-person perspective. Fans will be hoping to gain more insight into the new game’s timeline and when it’s set relative to the major events which take place inPillars of Eternity.

Fans could also gain more information about playable races.Pillars of Eternityhad multiple playable racesfrom the malformed Godlike to the mischievous Orlans, and their huge physical differences has left many players wondering whether the freedom to choose from the Kith races could be translated into a first-person game.

The Living Lands, the setting of the game, could also get more of a spotlight at this earlier point in development. Though the setting is in the far north of Eora, the region has been described as extremely diverse in terms of its environments, many of which are contained microclimates between the rolling hills and valleys of the Living Lands. Fans may even gain answers to some of the questions raised in the trailer, such as the identity of the statue seen in the teaser or whether or not the protagonist is a Watcher like the hero in the other games.

For now, fans of RPGs and Obsidian will have to wait. However, with Microsoft sure to want to make a leave impression as it kicks off a new console generation at The Game Awards 2020, fans who have been waiting for morenews aboutAvowedcould be in luck.
