Picking the right weapons, shoes, and shields inDreamscaperis important. Just as crucial is picking thebest Keepsakes, which provide passive abilities to Cassidy. This is usually a percentage increase to an elemental attack or some other attribute. Some provide companions to Cassidy that assist her in combat.

Once these are picked up and entered into the inventory they cannot easily be removed. There are a few instances when one will (or can) be removed, but there isn’t a “Drop Keepsake” option in the inventory. There are also cursed Keepsakes, so ensure to read the in-game descriptions when they pop up.
10Safety Boots
While playingDreamscaper, the player will encounter many areas with a red substance on the ground. The areas with this substance damage Cassidy when she runs over them. It’s not a lot of damage, but in a game where the player only gets one life, any amount of damage is significant. The Safety Boots negate damage from these red patches.
Players can dodge (jump) over spots on the ground with these red pits; however, it’s so much easier to just be able to ignore them. Also, some areas are almost completely covered with these red pits. This Keepsake decreases the difficulty in a game that can get rather hard. The Safety Boots are possibly thebest ease-of-use Keepsake inDreamscaper.
9Comfy Pillow
Health is one of the most important resources inDreamscaper– more than Sand (the in-game currency),more than Influence, more than Lucid, and more than keys and bombs. The reason for this is simple: inDreamscaper, the player only has one life, soCassidy’s health is everything.
The Comfy Pillow gives a +30% Health and +50% Lucid. This will help keep Cassidy alive in two ways. The first and most obvious is the health increase. The second is the extra Lucid; this will allow Cassidy to fire a few more projectiles with her ranged weapon. This will hopefully keep her from taking damage she might have otherwise.
8Wizard Robe
The Wizard Robe is another Keepsake that increases health, among other things. If a player wishes to complete the game, the importance of improving Cassidy’s maximum health cannot be overstated. The Wizard Robe boosts Cassidy’s health by 30%.
This Keepsake also gives a 10% improvement to all Fire, Poison, Lightning, Wind, Ice, Oil, and Water damage. The items Cassidy receives on a playthrough are randomly determined. With the Wizard Robe, no matter what weapon a player finds there’s a very good chance its damage will be improved by this Keepsake.
7Security Blanket
There are numerous Keepsakes that summon a companion to assist Cassidy. Most are of the offensive variety. One of the few defensive companions, the Security Blanket, summons a companion that spins around Cassidy and protects her from enemy attacks. This is a passive ability; meaning it works on its own to protect Cassidy.

The areas that make up a level can be confining and filled with enemies. At times like that, it can be hard to avoid enemy attacks. Additionally, many enemies can reduce Cassidy’s health bar by as much as 1/5 with a single attack. In the later levels, the enemies get tougher and the number of hostile projectiles moving across the area increases. This makes the Security Blanket even more effective as the player progresses.
6Pinball
One game mechanic players should try to exploit, if they’re lucky enough to find the appropriate items, is ricocheting their projectiles off enemies. This makesranged weapons quite a bit more effective(and efficient). A weapon that can ricochet its projectiles off of several enemies, like the Frisbee does naturally, makes this game much less frustrating.
Weapons that seem to benefit from this Keepsake the most are the Frisbee, Optic Sear, and Finger Gun. These weapons do a lot of damage, and being able to hit multiple enemies with a single projectile will clear an area of enemies in no time.
5Rear-View Mirror
This is another companion Keepsake. Unlike the Security Blanket, though, the Rear-View Mirror summons a companion that attacks enemies. There are many attack companions inDreamscaper, but the Rear-View Mirror is generally accepted as one of the best.
This Keepsake companion fires projectiles at enemies approaching Cassidy from behind. There will be many moments where the player is running for their lives; this allows for some parting shots as Cassidy flees. In addition to dealing damage, this companion’s projectiles also stagger enemies. The Rear-View Mirror lets the player focus on one enemy without having to worry about enemies approaching from behind, and even if it doesn’t kill them it at least slows their approach.
4Photocopy
This is a Keepsake that veteranplayers ofDreamscaperlove seeing. The Photocopy Keepsake adds an extra projectile to any ranged weapon Cassidy uses, effectively doubling its effectiveness. That’s the in-game description anyway; this doesn’t seem to work with ranged weapons that fire continuously, like the Optic Sear or Boostie Fuego.
The Photocopy makes ranged weapons like the Finger Gun or Frisbee powerful enough thatthe player’s melee weaponwill become an afterthought. Combine this Keepsake with others that boost ranged weapons – like the next two entries.
3Sewing Needle
The Sewing Needle is one of thebest Keepsakes inDreamscaperfor builds focused on ranged weapons; most of them, anyway. This Keepsake gives projectiles fired by Cassidy the piercing attribute. Piercing causes the projectiles to pass through an enemy while doing damage. Multiple enemies passing through a choke point can be eliminated quickly and with only a few shots.

The Sewing Needle is not sogreat with melee builds, but in either case (melee or ranged), this Keepsake helps players get the most out of their Lucid meter. It’s easy to get a group of enemies following behind Cassidy; with the Sewing Needle, a good strategy is to have Cassidy dash forward, then turn and fire into this group.
2Toy Pigeon
Long-range shots are easy to miss inDreamscaper, especially if someone ignores the option to increase aim-assist. The Toy Pigeon causes projectiles to seek out the enemy. The benefit of this is obvious – now missing the target is not something the player needs to worry about.
This Keepsake is overpowered when combined with the Sewing Needle. With these two Keepsakes, projectiles pierce through the first target then seek out a secondary target. Faster projectiles may not be able to reach a secondary target before passing it by.
1Fire Bird
This is thebest Keepsake inDreamscaper. This is not in dispute. The Fire Bird essentially gives the player an extra life…in a game that only gives them one. If Cassidy dies, the Fire Bird brings her back to life at half her maximum hit points. This breaks the Fire Bird, removing it from the inventory. So, it’s a one-use item.
The Keepsakes on this list, and there are plenty of great Keepsakes leftoffthis list, have incredibly useful abilities. However, the ability to not have to start over because Cassidy got hit two steps away from a health potion is the most powerful ability by far. It saves the player time and averts frustration.
