Biomutanthas been out for around a week now and this new post-apocalyptic action RPG offers tons of things to do, places to explore, and weapons to make. The IP from Experiment 101 and THQ Nordic just received a major patch that changes a lot of things, mainly addressing issues players pointed out in comments or reviews sinceBiomutant’s release. The 1.4 patch is not merely about fixing bugs, settings, world drops, and overall quality of life, but instead, it also focuses on balancing the game in a way that makes melee more appealing and ranged weapons less prominent.

One of the main quality of life features included inBiomutant’s new patch is that the Tutorial Area has improved in terms of pace and loot found, but that’s not all. Generally speaking, there were many changes to the Narrator and dialogues, the tempo of which has considerably been improved by reducing the impact of gibberish before the Narrator translates what other creatures said, offering the option of removing this entirely. For those who complained the game was too easy, even on Hard mode,Biomutant’s developers addressed the issue by adding one extra layer of difficulty called Extreme mode.

Biomutant’s 1.4 Patch, Nerfs, Buffs, And Changes

ThisBiomutantpatch does a lot more than that, and now damage on all melee weapons and ranged weapons has changed, with the former receiving an increase of 5% damage on bodies, handles, and add-ons. Ranged weapons, on the other hand, have been nerfed by the same amount on bodies, muzzles, and grips, which makes them still very strong, but the gap between them and melee weapons is not so huge anymore. The reason behind these changes is that melee weapons andmelee combat inBiomutantas a whole felt a bit less rewarding than their ranged counterparts, both in terms of actual damage output and how close combat is more dangerous.

Another change that will have an indirect impact on the matter comes in the form of bigger enemies now being slower when trying to grab the player, and smaller enemies' kicks being easier to parry thanks to a more consistent time window. This doesn’t make melee combat simpler, but it makes it smoother and more in line with the other options. It’s not exactly a nerf of the enemies, especially considering how there is a new gameplay mode that makes enemies hit harder. However, there was a significant nerf in this patch, and that’s one for theDead-Eye’s Sharpshooter Perk.

What Sharpshooter did was to straight-up double the damage dealt by the Dead-Eye with two-handed guns, but now its multiplier has been reduced to 1.25, meaning that the increase in damage is not 100%. This is huge, as it made theDead-Eyetoo strong compared to all other ranged options, and probably even stronger than all builds in general, regardless of their specialization. The patch also introduced the possibility for players to pick Perks from any other class when starting a new game plus experience, which makes Perks like Sharpshooter available to everyone, instead.

Lastly, another big change forBiomutantcame with abilities now being able to properly cause critical strikes. As a matter of fact, some players delving more into abilities like Biogenetics powers orPsi-Powerslamented that these could not crit, despite the Psi-Freak class coming with a Perk that increases critical chance with powers. This is now fixed, however, and it probably means that characters using ‘magic’ will now be much stronger than ever before. Overall, patch 1.4 delivers whatBiomutantneeded, and then some.
