When Season 4 ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfarewas first revealed, Infinity Ward revealed that fans would be getting a new sniper rifle sometime later in the season, but didn’t reveal anything about it. Now, almost two weeks later, the gameplay of that weapon, the Rytec AMR sniper rifle, has been leaked and, if it stays similar to how it handles right now, it’s looking like it’s going to pack an absolute wallop.
The new weapon was leaked on Twitter by user BKTOOR, who uploaded a 30-second video of the gun in action on the map Trench, the new Gunfight map added toCall of Duty: Modern Warfareat the beginning ofSeason 4.

While the video itself is very short, it does give players an idea as to how the gun will behave when it’s added to the game in the future. The weapon seems to have a huge amount of kick — especially when the person in the video fires the weapon at the Ferris wheel onTrench— and fires in semi-auto. That, combined with its looks, is causing some people to speculate that the weapon is related to the Barrett .50 cal from previousCall of Dutytitles. While that’s really a question for gun experts, it’s hard to argue against that notion, with the only real difference being the lack of a giant muzzle brake at the end of the barrel.
Of course, the question on everyone’s mind is the weapon’s release date. While most would argue that, given the weapon’s current state in-game, it’s only a few days out from release, it’s simply impossible to tell given the times. With the developers working from home and withmajor historical eventshappening around the nation, schedules and release times are shifting on what appears to be a daily basis.
While everyone probably wants the new sniper as soon as possible, it might be beneficial for some players to come to terms with the fact that it might be a while before they get their hands on the Rytec AMR.
The inclusion of a new sniper, however, is great news in-and-of-itself. Players have been clamoring for a new one to be added to the game ever since its launch but even throughoutmultiple seasons and multiple new weapons, Infinity Ward has never obliged. It’s good to see that, after three seasons, Infinity Ward has finally decided to throw players a bone.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
