With only a couple of days to go before its official release, Bungie accidentally releases an early update forDestiny 2: Lightfallthat locks players out from logging in if they’ve downloaded it. There seems to be plenty of excitement for the upcoming Lightfall expansion within the community, as Bungie has continued to release new details over the past few weeks, from blogs to videos. The latest trailer arrived inside ofthe recent PlayStation State of Play, giving fans their best look at how powerful The Witness really is.
Many players are expecting Lightfall to be one of, if not, the darkest chapter inDestiny 2as the Season of the Seraph has left Guardians in a precarious position. Fans who have played through the finale will have seen the Traveler appearing to flee Earth only to be boxed in by a fleet of Darkness ships, with The Witness bearing down on it. Meanwhile, Lightfall appears to tap into a heavy vaporwave visual style, as players head to Neptune whereCalus and his Shadow Legion threaten the hidden city of Neomuna.

This weekend, someDestiny 2players saw an available update on the PlayStation 5 and after installing it, the title screen changed to the upcomingLightfall logo and accompanying music. The reveal was posted to theDestiny 2subReddit by a member named Zhentharym showcasing the new look and full title screen music, which many people seemed to enjoy as it definitely took on a darker theme. However, it appears that by downloading this update, players were locked out of the game entirely, being unable to log in.
Players with this issue reported a number of potential fixes, with some even downloading the PS4 version to play there. The Bungie help team responded to the post, confirming that a Lightfall update was accidentally released early in specific regions of Japan and Europe. Bungie has since rolled back the preload update to prevent any more people from being locked out, and offered a few tips to correct the problem for those that are. Essentially, players will need to uninstall the game and basically download the PS5 version ofDestiny 2again to be able to play.
The new menu look and sound seems to just be the tip of the iceberg for the Lightfall expansion. TheNeptunian city of Neomunaappears to be adding a unique visual design not seen anywhere else in the game, offering fans a neon soaked, cyberpunk style city to explore. The hidden city appears to offer players plenty to do being under siege by the Shadow Legion while also presenting a huge scale and verticality for exploring using the new Strand abilities.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. The Lightfall expansion is set to launch on all platforms on February 28.
