Destiny 2’sGuardian Gameswas Bungie’s first real attempt at letting players compete to show which class is their favorite. Through the collection of medals, players could state their case for why one class was more dedicated than another, with the end goal of getting a special reward. Bungie wouldn’t say what exactly the reward would be, but the developer promised that the winning class would be immortalized in the tower.
Now that Guardian Games has completed,Destiny 2players can now see how the winning class, Titans, are immortalized, and we have to say it’s quite disappointing. Expectations were that the existing Guardian Games statues and “bank” would be replaced with something highlighting the winning class, but instead, all Titans got was a small statue to the side of Zavala.

While mostDestiny 2playersexpected Hunters to win the Guardian Gameseasily, Bungie put in some safeguards to ensure that all classes were represented equally. And on the first day Hunters took the lead in Guardian Games as expected. Then, Titans won the next day…and the next day…and the next.
Many began to question whether something was amiss with the Guardian Games tally system or if players were cheating, but Bungie presented empirical data showing that Titans simply were turning out in more numbers. Or rather, Titans were willing to partake of the bounty grind more than any other class, on a per-character basis.

But for all that effort, the Titan’s surprising win will hardly be remembered and is actually now laughed about. Some say that Hunter and Warlock mains simply lost interest in the event after seeing how bounty heavy it was, and Titans earned their reward. However, no one expected that Bungie was going to toss a tiny statue off to the side of the Tower. It seemed only fair that the winning class has something bold to brag about and that would be instantly seen by any player that landed in the Tower.
What Players Expected
What They Got
Instead, the reward feels hardly worth the effort, which is an area that Destiny 2 has been struggling as of late. With so much emphasis put on completing bounties instead of activities, players are starting to feel that the effort isn’t worth the rewards available. It’s become such a problem, in fact, thatBungie plans to revamp its rewards systemin some significant ways starting in Year 4.
For right now, though, there is a pitiful Titan statue in the Tower that only those whovisit Zavalawill even notice. And with Bungie saying it wants to allow players to pick up Bounties without landing on a destination, soon no one will even realize the statue is there.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
