Destiny 2’s Gambit game mode has received a very comprehensive recreation inFortnite’s Creative Mode, from its core gameplay progression down to some of its minute details. Bungie’s take on the PvPvE combat trope has been widely criticized over the years, not necessarily due to a faulty concept but rather because the developer simply hasn’t invested enough time to truly help it blossom.
As it currently stands,Destiny 2’s Gambit is supposed to be one of the three key pillars of its core gameplay loop, alongside the regular PvE content and the Crucible-based PvP matches. Yet, not only has there been virtually no new content released for Gambit over the last couple of years, but Bungie itself hasn’t been commenting much on what the plans for it might be, leaving fans to theorize as to what might be going on.

This has led to a situation where aDestiny 2fan successfully recreated Gambit inFortnite’s powerful Creative Mode editor. Built by a player called straylight and featured under the island code 1568-4346-9669, the custom Risk It Rampage mode features all the key aspects of Gambit itself. It’s a 4v4 PvPvE game mode where players kill enemies and bank their dropped resources to summon disruptor foes on the opposing team’s copy of the map. The first team to bank an appropriate amount of resources summons the final boss, and whoever kills the boss first wins the match.
Though Risk It Rampage doesn’t actually referenceDestinyin any meaningful way, it’s hard not to see the parallels between it and Gambit. What’s particularly notable is thatDestiny 2fans want Bungie to discuss Gambitand what the future holds for the mode, but the developer doesn’t appear to be interested in the matter. Though the mode has been receiving small new batches of seasonal content, such as shaders and Ritual Weapon ornaments, Bungie simply hasn’t referenced it in a meaningful way in quite a while now, and there haven’t been any new maps for years.
TheDestiny 2player base didn’t miss out on the opportunity to work some jabs at Bungie into the discussion. Though the game’s development team hasn’t come out and said it outright,Destiny 2fans believe Gambit is dyingdue to the severe lack of attention the mode has received over the years. The lack of new maps, in particular, has been a huge point of contention, as there are only four available maps, the newest of them having launched in Season 6.
Curiously,Fortniteplayers aren’t the only ones willing to try their hand at building a newer, better Gambit-type PvPvE game mode.Crash Team RumbleisDestiny 2’s Gambit in everything but name, for example, which implies that people have realized there’s ample potential present in Bungie’s forgotten game mode. Bungie itself, however, currently seems uninterested in doing much of anything with it.
Destiny 2is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
