Bungie kicked off its sixth year ofDestiny 2content with bothLightfalland Season of Defiance, bringing with it several changes to the game’s sandbox. Players received a set of new destinations, weapons, and missions to enjoy, and Bungie has already promised many more to come as this next year of content unfolds. One such update on the horizon fulfills a long-requested wish for manyDestiny 2players.
The current season still has plenty of gas left in the tank as this past week marked the start ofDestiny 2’s Guardian Gameswhere players compete head-to-head in challenges for their chance at yearly bragging rights. Even so, some players are already looking forward to the end of the Guardian Games and the start of Season of the Deep where several subclasses and Exotics are set to receive some major overhauls. As such, players are eager to see some positive change to a fan-favorite but often ignored subclass.

Destiny 2’s Supers Have Been Overdue for a Rework
Later this month,Season of the Deepcontinues the narrative journey ofDestiny 2and brings a number of buffs to players' abilities. This comes as part of a slew of updates to the game’s mechanics includingmajor changes toDestiny 2’s Pinnacle rewards. One of the largest of these changes comes to the Warlock Stormcaller subclass, specifically, its Chaos Reach Super ability. Though fans enjoy this unique power, it has recently fallen to the wayside in favor of more powerful or useful Supers.
Buffs to Chaos Reach have been at the top of several players' wishlists for some time now, and Bungie hopes that thesechanges toDestiny 2’s Super abilitieswill help bring better balance as a whole. Much ofDestiny 2’s endgame content relies heavily on Warlocks having the Solar Super Well of Radiance, especially in content such as raids or grandmaster strikes, or on high-damage burst Supers such as Nova Bomb or the new Strand Super Needlestorm.

Bungie, as well as a large portion of theDestiny 2community, felt as though this skewed dynamic pigeonholed players into certain roles and made certain subclasses simply inferior in most use cases. EvenDestiny 2’s Stasis subclass falls behindin viability despite being one of the game’s most recent subclass additions. The 3.0 updates to the classic subclasses were a good start to bringing balance to Guardian abilities, but Bungie developers hope that these changes coming next season will bring that goal even closer to fruition.
Destiny 2’s Chaos Reach to Receive Major Buff
The first and foremost of Chaos Reach’s buffs is a whopping flat 25% increase to all damage in PvE. In addition, a player that sustains damage with Chaos Reach on a single target will create a jolting lightning bolt at the target’s location causing even more damage and debuffs to the target and those around it. With Supers already packing quite a punch, such an increase will be noticeable to players as they possiblyreturn to Titan inDestiny 2next season.
While PvP’s use of Chaos Reach only benefits from the new lightning strike in terms of damage, damage resistance for Warlocks with the Super activated will increase from 40% to 50% giving them a bit more survivability. Their strafe speed in the Super will also increase in all game modes from 3.5m/s to 4.5m/s to give players the ability to maneuver more freely as they blast their enemies. Finally, a minor but welcome adjustment also comes to the camera angle during the Super which prevents the Guardian’s body from blocking the player’s view of their target as they strafe around.
Destiny 2is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
