A major spoiler forDestiny 2stemming from a recent round of datamined information could mean dramatic changes for one of the game’s most important characters. Those wanting to go intoBeyond Lightunspoiled should skip these spoilers, of course. They include someDestiny 2lore that will start being released as soon as next week. This one has some serious ramifications forDestiny 2players going forward, but is also heavily based on speculation at this point.

The datamine has to do with one of the entries inEris Morn’s The Singular Exegete, in which the “Messages of Darkness” are interpreted. The full message for the Camouflage entry has now been translated and it has dire ramifications. The initial, incomplete entry for Camouflage mentioned a thread “closer than you know” and someone that is “hiding the truth even from my own friend.” But as unsettling as those comments are, the rest of the message is worse.

The newly datamined message adds “I do not want to take them distrust the Vanguard,” an implication that many see as hinting at a betrayal in theVanguard’s midst. The datamined message goes on to warn about a “threat in our own ranks,” as well as “a killer hidden in plain site.” Note that the message doesn’t reveal who the infiltrator is, leaving fans to theorycraft and speculate.Destiny 2fans are more than willing to do so.

A lengthy post on Redditbreaks down why they believe that this infiltrator is Zavala, a harrowing possibility. They refer specifically to the lore entry for theTraveler’s Chosen exotic sidearm. It speaks to someone who constantly looks at and talks to the Traveler while looking over a railing. It also talks about hope “bleeding” from them as they hand tokens out. It also describes them as having a hollow space within them. The voice is assumed to be from the Savathun, who has itself infiltrated someone at the Tower.

Others point out that the Traveler’s Chosen lore could point toShaxxinstead of Zavala, since Shaxx stands right near the Ahamkara skull at the Tower. But the Reddit poster disagrees strongly. They point to several other lore entries indicating that Zavala is questioning the Traveler despite previous faith. Perhaps he’d open himself to attaining power in a different way under the belief that he’s protecting his people.

Much remains to be revealed regarding this plotline inDestiny 2,leading intoBeyond Light. There seems to be a traitor in the Vanguard. It could even be someone as powerfully positioned as Zavala. Clearly, big events are coming toDestiny 2in the relatively near future.

Destiny 2is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
