Dungeons and Dragonsjust announced the biggest optional rules expansion to 5e sinceXanathar’s Guide to Everything, which means that tabletop gamers have a boatload of new options for customizing their playable characters. In addition tonew lineage options for character creationand some updates to the Artificer class, the new book,Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, includes a whooping 22 subclass options. Most of these options are brand new, though they have been tested through Unearthed Arcana, but there will be a handful that look a bit familiar, as well.
Once players get their hands on the book they’ll be able to explore all 22 subclass options including exciting additions like the Aberrant Mind and Beast Master. One additional goal ofTasha’s Cauldron of Everythingis to pull together some things that have been printed in campaign setting specific books into one sourcebook. One example of that is the reprint of the Artificer, but there are also a handful of subclasses that have been printed other places and will reappear in thisDungeons and Dragonsbook when it drops in November.

Over the past year or so, some very cool subclasses have been added to the game thanks to theGuildmaster’s Guide to Ravnica, Mythic Odyssey of Theros, and a handful of other books. Although not every campaign setting specific subclass appears in Tasha’s Cauldron, there are five that made the cut (in addition to the Artificer subclasses)…

Bladesinging (Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide)
Interestingly, none ofthreeExplorer’s Guide to Wildemountclassesmade the cut. It may be possible that those options are just too tied to Dunamancy to easily port them over to non-Wildemount settings. That said, the addition of a handful of the Magic subclasses is very exciting and this will be pretty convenient for players who want access to as many subclasses as possible without buying setting books for planes where they do not intend to set out on an adventure. Additional subclasses will be announced as the release date draws nearer, so keep an eye out for updates in the coming weeks and months.
