Summary

Fallout 76Season 17 is here, having launched in the early afternoon hours ET on June 12. Titled Skyline Valley, this season brings the game’s first-ever map expansion, on top of introducing a wide variety of newFallout 76content.

TheFallout 76Skyline Valley update has been in open betasince April 2024. But as has always been the case with such experiments, Bethesda was only offering it via the game’s Public Test Server (PTS), which acts as a separate development branch and doesn’t allow sharing game progress with the stable build. Most PC players, the only demographic that had access to the PTS update, hence refrained from jumping into Skyline Valley during this testing period.

The much-anticipated release had at last arrived on June 12, marking the start ofFallout 76Season 17. The official Skyline Valley patch notes state that the update is between 27.6GB and 40.3GB in size, depending on the platform. However, Game Rant’s own testing suggests that the Steam version of Skyline Valley actually weighs in at 24.08GB. As soon as the update is downloaded, Fallout 1st members will want to jump into the Atomic Shop, where they will be able to claim the new Camp Counselor Tent for free.

The update itself is centered on the titular Skyline Valley, which can be found in the southern part of the map. While Bethesda previously experimented with adding new locations to its live-service RPG via Expeditions, Skyline Valley marks thefirst-ever expansion of theFallout 76map of Appalachia. The new region is a bit larger than Ash Heap and slightly smaller than Toxic Valley. Skyline Valley is largely based on the Shenandoah National Park, which runs alongside Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains.

Fallout 76 Season 17 Scoreboard

The newly launchedFallout 76update also finally unlocks Vault 63. Players will find that the mysterious Ash Heap structure is directly connected to Skyline Valley, and houses a motley group of electrified ghoul inhabitants called the Lost, who will point them in the direction of some yet-to-be-resolved mysteries. Aside from a new main quest, Season 17 also introduces another public event called Dangerous Pastimes, which will task players with chasing down storms to power up an enormous lightning rod. Another event called Neurological Warfare is also part of the package, but can only be triggered by nuking any part of Skyline Valley. Doing so will put players on course to fight a new trio of regional bosses called Storm Goliaths.

More side quests, cosmetics, and C.A.M.P. items are also included in the June 12 update, with many of them being unlockable by grinding the latest seasonal Scoreboard. Bethesda has yet to clarify how long Season 17 is set to last, though precedent suggests thatFallout 76players have at least until September 2024 to work their way through the new Scoreboard.

Combat Rebalance Work

We are beginning a series of combat updates that are aimed to improve your experience. We’re starting this process with today’s update by making some changes to Creatures and Weapons. Our goal is for these changes to have positive effects on combat throughout the entire game.

To help set expectations, we expect these changes to take effect in a variety of different places (Weapons, Creatures, etc.) across multiple patches. Giving you all a lot of time to provide feedback on the adjustments being made to ensure we’re moving in a positive direction.

C.A.M.P. Improvements and Fixes

Gameplay Improvements and Fixes

Dev Note: With this fix Union Power Armor is now craftable for players who have bought and learned the recipe from Giuseppe or by players who earned the Union Power Armor entitlements in Season 10.

If you do not have the plan for Union Power Armor, it can be purchased from Giuseppe who is upstairs with Bubbles at the Refuge. Once learned, they will no longer be able to be obtained.

Additionally, Union Power Armor pieces will not drop as loot even if you can craft the Power Armor pieces, but they can be found via the random Power Amor Purchases from Murmrgh at The Rusty Pick. Players should only see Union Power Armor Pieces that they know how to craft drop from Purveyor’s Mystery Picks. Pieces that they have yet to learn will not drop

Union Power Armor pieces will still have the Atomic Symbol on them and cannot be traded or dropped by players once they have been obtained.

Weapons Improvements and Fixes

Dev Note: These weapon mods now evenly split their damage between Physical and Energy/Fire/Poison, and damage has been adjusted to account for damage being split between multiple damage types.

The Cattle Prod has also received a similar change - its damage has been adjusted and is evenly split between Physical and Energy damage. These adjustments generally represent an increase in damage dealt.

We have also improved how we calculate the falloff for weapon damage at range. We expect this to smooth out the falloff damage for weapons that historically lost most of their damage right away. All ranged weapons benefit from this, but it should be most visible with Shotguns and Pipe Guns, as well as when fighting larger creatures such as Deathclaws.
