Custom consoles are nothing new in the world of modern gaming as Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have put out a fair share of custom systems to celebrate the release of major titles. While most of these are aesthetically appropriate to the respective game release, the systems' physical designs don’t typically stray from the base design and, instead, simply have the system match the general aesthetic of the game such as theHalo 5Xbox One console. However, two Brazilian artists have taken the idea of custom consoles to the next level by sharing their take on aGod of War RagnarokPlayStation 5 which imagines how the console may look inside the game’s world.
God of War Ragnarokis a sequel to 2018’sGod of Warand continues Kratos' story alongside his son, Atreus, following their journey to Jotenheim in the previous game. Picking up three years after 2018’s game, Kratos and Atreus find themselves on a new journey to halt the impending Norse Armageddon and uncover the truth behind Atreus' identity as Loki, his meaning to the Giants, and his possible role in Ragnarok. The pair will also find themselves hounded by Freya, an ally-turned-enemy following the death of Baldur at Kratos' hands, and Thor, the wrathful God of Thunder responsible for the fall of The Giants.

Looking ahead to the game’s November 2022 release, two artists took it upon themselves to offer their take on a custom,God of War Ragnarok-themed PS5 to celebrate the game. The pair in question are Anderson e Debora, who go by the handle fan2fan.br on social media and have previously created their takes on custom PS5 consoles and accessories for games includingThe Last of Us 2,Horizon: Forbidden West, andAssassin’s Creed Valhalla. Their latest,Ragnarok-inspired workwas originally posted on their shared Instagram page before it started to make its way around other social media platforms.
The console’s stone-style body is meant to reflect the architecture seen across the game’s world, especially its version of Midgard, inspired by real-life stone works of the Vikings and other Nordic tribes. However, the center sigil has been a constant forGod of Warsince the 2018 game with the bear representing Kratos and the wolf representing Atreus. Small touches of snow and ice are also present to reflectthe ominous Fimbulwinter, a winter spanning three summers preceding Ragnarok, which is nearing its end at the beginning of the new game.
As of writing, the design is a concept and the artists have not said if it will be available to purchase from them directly. It wouldn’t be surprising if they did sell the design as a body kit, though, as previous kits like theLast of Us 2body kit andDualSense controllerholder have been available in limited numbers on Anderson e Debora’s Etsy page. That said, it is possible the pair are simply waiting until closer toGod of War Ragnarok’s release to capitalize on players' excitement.
God of War Ragnarokreleases on November 9 for PS4 and PS5.
