Summary
The world ofFar Cryis an unusual one, with a surprising amount of character crossover between entries in the long-running game series despite the casts and stories being so vastly different each time. Despite it being unusual for any game to do something like bringing back a heroic character as a villain, it certainly wouldn’t be out of place forFar Cryto do so.
Throughout the history of these games, a lot of effort has always been connected with character work. TheFar Cryfranchise is known for bringing in big actors to help create amazing heroes and villains alike, so one of the heroic characters returning to take on a more villainous role is entirely possible.Even though the franchise seems to be in limbo, it is actually still moving forward.

6The Deputy
Perhaps one of the most likely formerFar Cryprotagonists to return later in a more villainous position, the Junior Deputy was the player character and main protagonist ofFar Cry 5. He played an elongated game of cat-and-mouse withJoseph Seed, the dastardly villainwho believed that a nuclear holocaust was coming, thus ushering in the end of the world.
Despite Seed being the leader of a fanatical cult, and his ideas being completely ludicrous, he ended up being proven right in what is known as the canon ending forFar Cry 5, the one in which the Deputy chooses not to kill him and gets into a bunker with Seed in time to survive the holocaust that does indeed come. The Deputy is referenced by Seed inFar Cry: New Dawnbut is now being called The Judge, and has begun to take in more of what Seed says, believing him and submitting to his ideas. This is an easy set-up for the Junior Deputy to return as the villainous, fanatical Judge in the future.

5Dani Rojas
Dani Rojas is the most recent main protagonist of the franchise inFar Cry 6. While this character fought viciously against the reign of Anton Castilo, helping the Resistance and making a lot of enemies along the wayby not being particularly kind. However, when voted by many of the Resistance leaders to take over the role of El Presidente in Yara, Dani refuses.
This is interesting, but even more interesting is that Dani lets the Resistance factions decide who should be the next leader instead while admitting that they don’t have faith in the factions to choose a good leader. Dani wasn’t customizable as a character inFar Cry 6, which is rare for the franchise, and actually having a name and being fully voiced is also unusual, making it seem as if the developers wanted a special focus on Dani, so the character would be better-remembered than other protagonists. Could a more cynical Dani, after seeing that the overthrow of the Castilo regime didn’t help Yara, become a more villainous character in a future installment?

4Willis Huntley
Willis Huntley is an interesting character because few if any others have appeared in as many editions of theFar Cryfranchise as he has managed. First, he appeared inFar Cry 3as a heroic side character, a CIA agent looking to help Jason Brody in his mission. However, Huntley has already managed to be a heroic character that returns with a less heroic role.

InFar Cry 4, Willis appeared to be using Ajay in different missions, forcing him to help in Huntley’s shady schemes on the basis of getting more information about his parents. He also made a briefer appearance inFar Cry 5, gaining the assistance of the Junior Deputy to recover an embarrassing VHS tape from a bunker, anda secret including him can even be foundinFar Cry 6. His role has shifted violently over time, and it would be a simple thing to bring back Willis Huntley as a more major antagonist.
3Jack Carver
The protagonist of the originalFar Crygame, Jack Carver is a character who has already managed to star inFar Cry: Instinctsand theFar Crymovie adaption which didn’t manage a great deal of success. However, it seems that the franchise has since chosen to move on from Carver. Nevertheless, a return is not out of the question for this character.
After being injected by Kreiger on Jacutan, Jack gained superhuman but feral abilities which make him dangerous in completely different ways to anybody else in the more recentFar Cryentries. As such, it would be easy to concoct a story about him living longer but slowly losing his sanity, making him the perfect choice for an insane villain in a newer entry. He also often found himself at the bottom of a bottle and broke, so finally turning to a life of crime to get by and finally have some money would be easily explained. Fans may see more in theunofficial fan-made sequelto the original game.

2Jason Brody
Jason Brody was the protagonist ofFar Cry 3, someonewho started out as a nobodybut became a legend in the Rook Islands after escaping Vaas and helping determine the future of the islands in several ways. He earned the respect of the Rakyat and became a member of their tribe along the way, but already somewhat appeared in a villainous role in a later entry.

Jason returned recently in theFar Cry 6expansionVaas: Insanity, which let players take control of Vaas Montenegro as a protagonist and view Jason as a villainous character. Obviously, this doesn’t really count as Jason becoming a villain, but Jason’s fascinating monologue at the end ofFar Cry 3about becoming a monster after all the killing he has been forced into makes for an interesting possibility that he could return as a villain down the line.
1The Jackal
One of the main characters inFar Cry 2, The Jackal is never actually a playable character but was a back-and-forth character who ended up helping the Mercenary to save the day at the end. While it seemed as if the Jackal and the Mercenary both perished, there is a mention in the final cut scene that the body of the Jackal was never found.
This makes for an easy story about his escaping and moving on with his various shady activities. He already troubled the player several times throughoutFar Cry 2before actually helping them, so it wouldn’t be a large leap for him to return to the franchise under the guise of a more villainous character, especially given how long it has been in-universe since the events ofFar Cry 2.Fans may find out moreif this entry gets a remake at some point.
