Upon completing theHome, Sweet Homemain quest inFinal Fantasy 16and beginningThe Gathering Storm, Clive will gain access to a new side quest in the new and improved Hideaway. This side quest is entitledCaulk and Bawl, and it can be started after Clive interacts with the Reading Table in his Chambers and reads Gav’s letter.

To beginFinal Fantasy 16’s Caulk and Bawl side quest, Clive must head towardThe Pier areaof The Hideaway and continue along the dock toward the exit; here, he will encounter a hooded man name Obolus who, when interacted with, will ask Clive for a pretty unusual favor.
How To Get Pitcher Wax For Obolus
Upon speaking to Obolus, Clive will be forced to listen to the man complain about the condition of his boat. Though he wishes to repair it, he lacks the necessary materials and has no means of acquiring them on his own. If players choose to help Obolus find the materials he’s after, Clive will set off in search of them.
To acquire the Pitcher Wax Obolus needs, Clive mustfast-travel to the Three Reeds, just north of The Hideaway. Upon spawning in, he must then follow the linear path in front of him until he canturn leftand head toward thebase of the cliffahead of him. Proceeding toward thegreen quest markerhere, the brave outlaw will encounter a group of fiveThorny Thistles, each of which must be vanquished in order to obtain thePitcher Wax.

When all five enemies have been defeated, Clive will receive8 Sharp Fangs, and16 Magicked Ashes, both of which can be used tocraft and upgrade his gear. He also receives5 Pitcher Wax, which he can then give to Obolus in The Hideaway.
How To Complete Caulk And Bawl In Final Fantasy 16
Once Clive has acquired the Pitcher Wax, he can fast-travel back to The Hideaway and speak to Obolus once more. Upon interacting with him, players will be given the option to hand the wax over; once they do, Obolus will thank Clive for his services before telling him about the history of the Argo, the boat he plans to repair. The boat means a great deal to Obolus, as it originally belonged to his father; it now serves as a reminder of him.
When Obolus finishes reminiscing about the past, he will reward Clive for his help by giving him aBadge of Might +1accessory. This accessory can then be equipped viathe Gear & Eikons tabin the pause menu toincrease Clive’s Attack by 12 points.
If players feel that Clive’s damage output could be a little better, they should consider placing this accessory in one of his available accessory slots. Once the accessory has been added to Clive’s inventory, the Caulk and Bawl side quest will end.
