Summary
Cait Sith has been shown off quite a bit in the trailers forFinal Fantasy 7: Rebirth, but there’s a lot more to thissmall and adorable catthan initially meets the eye. He actually plays a very big role in the story, one that’s no doubt going to be expanded upon by Square Enix in the newest installment of theFinal Fantasy 7 Remakeseries of games. He’s one of, if not the weirdest, character in the game, something that is pretty evident byjust looking at his design.
Still, he’s a fascinating character with plenty of unique quirks and traits that help him stand out from theother party members, making him one of the most memorable characters in the series. For anyone who wants to learn a little more about this wise-cracking and mischievous party member before the full game releases, these are all the major facts to know in advance.

1He Rides A Moogle
Anyone who has played theFinal Fantasygames before will have a pretty good idea ofwhat a Moogle looks like, usually taking the appearance of a small and fuzzy white creature with a bright red nose and a small ball hanging above their head. Similar to the Cactuar and Chocobo, they’re a recurring presence in the games that have made an appearance in nearly every entry, but Cait Sith’s Moogle looks very different, especially because of how much bigger it is.
The truth is, this isn’t a typical Moogle and is actually a stuffed toy that Cait uses to shout out commands with his megaphone. The reason why the Moogle was created in the first place, and why Cait is even pairing up with Cloud and the crew at all, is revealed further on in the game, but it’s fair to say that a small cat paired with a giant white Moogle is undoubtedly one of Tetsuya Nomura’smore out-there character designs, and that’s saying something.

2He Has A Luck-Based Combat Style
Out of all the obtainable party members inFinal Fantasy 7, Cait Sith is the most random in the sense that he primarily relies on being lucky to dish out damage and apply buffs. This is reflected in histwo Limit abilities, Slots and Dice, which might not be very reliable and consistent, but they can save a party from an early defeat if he manages to land on a lucky number or icon.
Square Enix will most probably give him a few more offensive tools to ensure he can keep up with the other party members during encounters in the latest game, but keeping thisluck-based fighting stylewould still help make him unique and a ton of fun to use. This could also make him the primary white mage archetype in the game who is capable of buffing his allies and ensuring they are always strong enough to take on enemy groups, so long as he lands on the buff when using his Slots.

3He Starts Off As A Fortune Teller
The first time Cloud and the gang meet Cait Sith in the original is during their visit tothe Golden Saucer, a giant amusement park filled with minigames and attractions that the player can enjoy. Among all the stylish business people and youngsters trying to win prizes, Cait Sith sticks out like a sore thumb and acts as a fortune-teller for anyone who cares to talk to him.
It becomes clear right away that this isn’t his profession and that there’s something much deeper going on behind the laughs and smiles, but it does fit with the whacky and vibrant appearance of the character. This is one of the most unusual but alsofunniest interactions in the game, so it’s highly likely Square Enix will keep this scene unless they decide to alter his introduction.

4He Occasionally Rides On Red XIII
While Cait does have his trusty moogle to help him get around, there have also been many instances where has been seen hopping on the back of Red XIII, who seems all too happy to give his newfound friend a lift. This is shown the most in the movieFinal Fantasy 7: Advent Childrenwhere he rides Red during thefight with Bahamutwith the two making quite the tag team.
It’s clear from the trailers thatFinal Fantasy 7: Rebirthis going to be featuring some sort of co-op attacks where the party members can combine their powers to destroy anything standing in their way, so this would be the perfect opportunity to call back to this moment featured in the movie.

5He’s Inspired By A Celtic Myth
Cat-sith refers to a type of fairy-like creature inCeltic mythologythat would haunt the Scottish Highlands, something that would be integrated into his character in theAdvent Childrenmovie. The cat was known for being very mysterious and devious, with some folk tales even claiming that it was a witch that hadthe ability to shape-shiftinto a black cat at will. It was also believed that the people of Scotland were always warned not to trust the cat-sith due to how it was apparently able to steal a person’s soul before it reached the gods, which again, has some very thin relations to the character featured inFinal Fantasy 7.
Going back to his Scottish origins, this is actually referenced inAdvent Childrenwhere Cait is shown to have a very strong Scottish accent, something that no doubt came as quite a surprise for many players who would have no doubt imagined him having a high-pitched Mickey Mouse voice.

6There’s A Debate About His Autonomy
It’s revealed pretty early on that Cait Sith isactually an advanced AIwho is being controlled, and while there are plenty of instances of him acting according to his programming, he is shown to also have some sort of self-autonomy. There are several points in the original story where he directly talks to the party with an emotional tone, which indicates that he could be his own person, even though fans are told this isn’t the case many times.
This has led to entire debates online aboutthe nature of AIand if it can truly become sentient after realizing that it is doing a truly heroic act for the sake of others, or the planet at large in the case ofFinal Fantasy 7. It’s almost guaranteed that Square Enix will touch upon this inRebirth, but while leaning one way or the other could make things clearer, it could be even better to make this just as vague as it was before to reignite this incredibly interesting dialogue between fans.

7His Name Will Be Pronounced “Kate Sihth”
By far the most divisive part of Cait Sith’s character is thepronunciation of his rather unusual name. Since the original game didn’t have any voice acting, players essentially had to guess how his name was pronounced, but after nearly three decades of the game being released, Square Enix has seemingly finally ended the debate with a simple tweet on Jul 08, 2025 that claims his name is “Kate Sihth.”
This has raised a fair bit of controversy since his name derives from Gaelic culture, where it would instead be pronounced as “Ket Shee.” Nonetheless, this is the way players can expect his allies to call him inRebirth, though there’s every chance Square Enix could go back on this decision in futureFinal Fantasy 7media.
