A number ofGenshin Impactplayers have tried to translate the piece of text that appears in Layla’s idle animation. Every character on the roster has a unique animation that can be triggered by being inactive for a couple of seconds. While a lot of characters attempt to stretch in their idle, others engage in various activities.
Layla is a newGenshin ImpactCryo user that can be acquired by pulling on the ongoing double banner that features Yae Miko and Childe. Players who want to get this new character should try to wish on one of the two Limited Character Banners which are scheduled to expire on December 6.

A new post on the officialGenshin Impactsubreddit has started an interesting discussionabout Layla’s idle animation. Reddit user MangaMau has shared a close-up screenshot showing the text that Layla pulls out during her idle. According to a comment left by Ferochu93, the text’s literal translation would be “sky movements and the sum of the science of the stars”, but the actual meaning is apparently “Celestial movements and comprehensive astrology”. Other fans seem to agree with this translation as the comment reached almost 1k upvotes.
A couple of players have pointed out that the text makes sense considering that thenewGenshin Impactcharacter Laylais a Sumeru Akademiya student who specializes in Theoretical Astrology. She is very devoted to her studies which often causes sleep deprivation making this character look like she could fall asleep at any point. According to the official storyline, she’s known to be sleepwalking in the night and she even developed an alternate personality while in this state.
When it comes to her power on the field, she is a very strong Cryo support character who has the ability to generate one of the best shields inGenshin Impact. The shield is so strong that itallows Layla to go to sleep in the middle of a fightwithout worrying about incoming attacks. Her Elemental Burst allows her to create a Cryo sphere that constantly fires Starlight Slugs dealing AoE damage.
Multiple replies in the comment section praise HoYoverse’s attention to every detail, especially inthe recently added Sumeru region. Updates 3.0 and 3.1 have introduced the first two parts of the new major region that so far consists of rainforests and deserts. Recent rumors have revealed that one of the upcoming updates could introduce a new desert part of the world located in the western part of Sumeru.
Genshin Impactis now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
