HBO Max’s fantastic animated DC seriesHarley Quinnseemingly keeps finding new reasons why it’s a must-see show, and now a new star added to its upcoming third season will only serve to increase that quality. Series producer Patrick Schumacker announced the news on Twitter and combined with everything else, it’s already shaping up to be a memorable season.

Sam Richardson, known for high-quality comedy series' likeVeepand the tragically short-livedDetroiters, will join the super violent andsuper funnyHarley Quinnfor its third season, though it’s still unknown who he’ll be playing. Set to release sometime this year, the new batch of episodes has been enticing eager fans for some time now, thanks to lots of teasing by Schumacker himself. Whether he will be a series regular or simply a guest star, Richardson will probably feel right at home alongside the show’s voice cast, which is already packed with stellar comedic actors.

Schumacker coyly omitted which character Richardson will be playing from the tweet, so there are nearly limitless possibilities in that regard. Considering howHarley Quinnseason 2 ended things assuming it might be canceled, leaving off withHarley and Poison Ivy driving away into the sunsethaving finally acknowledged their feelings for each other, season 3 can go in any number of directions. So in other words, there’s a non-zero chance that Richardson could show up as Mogo, the planet that’s actually a member of the Green Lantern Corps. Hey, it wouldn’t be the weirdest thingHarley Quinnhas ever done.

Richardson has enjoyed a rather consistent career, becoming a series regular onVeepas well as creatingDetroitersalongside co-star Tim Robinson. These accomplishments, paired with a number of small roles in variouspopular comedies likeArrested DevelopmentandThe Office, have earned him a solid reputation in the more light-hearted genres of Hollywood. He’s even made the jump to horror (albeit still with a comedic twist) with a starring role in the upcoming filmWerewolves Within, based on the VR video game of the same name.

His inclusion inHarley Quinnonly goes to show how much more life the series has in it. Richardson seems to be one of those actors whose star is perpetually on the rise, and while it’s unlikely a show like this will transform him into a household name, the more people who get to see/hear his performances, the better. It’s sure to be an exciting new season with him around.

Harley Quinnfeatures some of the best comedicvoice performances on television, so Richardson’s inclusion almost feels like the culmination of what was already expected. Hopefully, his still unknown character will stick around at least long enough for audiences to truly appreciate Richardson’s talents.
