Scream 5might have restarted a franchise that some thought was long dead, but now the movie series might be resurrecting a long dead character. Hayden Panettiere, who last appeared inScream 4is going to be coming back to the franchise, surprising some who might have thought she died off.
Panettiere’s character, Kirby Reed, inScream 4was thought to have been murdered when she took several knife wounds from one of the kids who had donned the persona of Ghostface in the film. While fans of the long-running series thought she had indeed joined the many who have died at the hands of those who put on the mask and cloak, it turns out thatScream 5quietly confirmed she actually managed to survive. Now, the next installment is taking advantage of that bit of news by bringing Kirby back.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor has officially signed on to reprise the role ofKirby Reed inScream 6. It should come as no surprise that she’ll be joined by other actors that have now become veterans of the series including Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Jenna Ortega.
Jenna Ortega, especially, has turned herself intoa kind of Scream Queenconsidering the number of horror movies she’s appeared in recently. She started her recent run as one of the heroines in Netflix’s black comedy horror,The Babysitter: Killer Queen. More recently she’s taken turns inStudio 666, andX. She’ll also be going back to Netflix as Wednesday Addams in an upcoming spin-off series that will debut on the streaming platform later this year.
Hayden Panettiere has had at least some Scream Queen experience in her career as well. Inaddition to appearing as Kirby Reedshe took a different turn than Ortega as she appeared in the horror video gameUntil Dawn.
Details about what thefollow-up toScream 5will entail are quite sparse outside of a few of the characters that will be appearing in Scream 6. It is known that the survivors of the last film are moving out of Woodsboro to try and get on with their lives and put Ghostface behind them. It’s also not yet known whether Panettiere is going to be central to the plot or whether she might just make a brief cameo in order to be. a callback to the popular character from the last generation ofScreamfilms.
