In an announcement from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences, it was unveiled that Phil Spencer would be receiving the AIAS Lifetime Achievement Award. This award is scheduled to be given to Spencer during the25th Annual DICE Awardsceremony at Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. In addition, it was revealed that Todd Howard from Bethesda Game Studios will be presenting the award. For those interested in watching Spencer be honored at the ceremony, the proceedings will be livestreamed on IGN starting Thursday, February 24 at 8 PM PST.

Besides announcing Spencer as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, AIAS president Meggan Scavio spoke on the accomplishments of the Head of Xbox. According to Scavio, “Phil Spencer has demonstrated both passion and leadership throughout his entire career at Microsoft.” In addition, she pointed out that his positive decision-making has not only had an impact on the Xbox brand but also the entire industry.

With this honor, Spencer joins a list of legendary names associated with video games to have received the Lifetime Achievement Award. According to the AIAS, the award is meant to go to those whose “accomplishments span a broad range of disciplines over a lengthy career in the industry.” Some of the previous recipients of this honor include the creator of PlayStation Ken Kutaragi, theformer president of Nintendo Satoru Iwata, and ESA founder Doug Lowenstein.

It is doubtlessly exciting for manyXboxfans to see the head of the gaming platform be recognized with this prestigious award. However, it appears that Spencer has no intentions of slowing down. It will be interesting to see what other plans he has in store for the company in the months ahead.
