To begin the process of transferring the save file from the existing Itch.io version ofHoloCure, players should first ensure that the Steam version of the game is installed. Once it is fully installed, players will then need to briefly run the game to ensure that all mandatory Steam files are created. Once this is done, players should head to theSteam Deck’s desktop mode, where the vast majorityof the remaining steps will take place.

Konsole Response When Searching for HoloCure Save File

Step 1: Locating the Itch.io HoloCure Save File

In order for playersto transfer their existing Itch.io save datato the Steam version ofHoloCure, the first step is to actually locate the aforementioned save file. This theoretically shouldn’t be a hard process, since it is known that the Steam Deck keeps the necessary file under /Steam/steamapps/compatdata. However, when searching in this folder, players will notice that Steam assigns a random number to every folder as opposed to using the program name, and while players could opt to search all of these manually, it could take a very long time depending on how many games are on the Steam Deck in question.

Fortunately, using the Steam Deck’s “Konsole” program, searching every folder manually will not be required in order to find the save file for the itch.io version ofHoloCure. Below are the steps that players should take in order to easily locate the save data file:

Once these steps have been successfully completed, the Konsole will return with a few different lines showing files called /HoloCure/save_n.dat, and one of these will be the save file that players are looking for.

In order to determine which file is the correct one, look at the very beginning of the files for a long string of numbers. It is likely that two of them will say “2420510” at the beginning, which is the number that Steam uses for the Steam version ofHoloCure. The files beginning with “2420510” arenotthe correct file, but this number will be important in the next step. For now, players should go ahead and head to the “.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata” folder that was previously searched by Konsole, and find the folder named the other number that Konsole responded with.

Step 2: Transferring the Itch.io Save File to the Steam Version of HoloCure

Once players have located the “save_n.dat” file in the folder that Konsole returned with, it is time to move it to the folder belonging to the proper Steam version ofHoloCure. Fortunately, as previously mentioned, we already know the Steam ID used byHoloCure: 2420510. Players should go ahead and copy the save_n.dat file in the current folder, then once again return to the “.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata” folder.

This time, players should find the folder that is numbered 2420510, and upon opening it, find the save_n.dat file located in this folder. Replace the save_n.dat file with the one that was previously found and copied. The save file should now be fully transferred and players should be able to continue enjoyingHoloCurethrough Steam withall their unlocks and progression from Itch.io.

HoloCureis now available on PC through Itch.io and Steam.
