Summary
In the world ofJujutsu Kaisen, cursed tools are weapons used by jujutsu sorcerers and non-jujutsu sorcerers alike. Not to be confused with cursed objects, which are items that contain cursed energy, cursed tools are used by sorcerers as support items and can give them an added advantage when fighting against cursed spirits.
Jujutsu Kaisen’sCursed tools contain cursed energy that allows ordinary weapons such as swords or knives to be used as cursed tools. Some weapons can also become semi-cursed tools if used over a long period of time by a user who constantly uses their cursed energy with the weapon.
Types of Cursed Tools
A fascinating fact about cursed tools is that some of them are worth a lot of money. The worth of a cursed tool can range from five hundred thousand to five hundred million yen, making it an extremely valuable weapon. Similar to sorcerers, who have grades based on how powerful they are, cursed tools also have grades ranging from one to four. This is based on how powerful the cursed tool is. If a sorcerer possessed a grade four cursed tool, this would give them a competitive edge in battle. Apart from cursed tools, there are also weapons known asspecial grade cursed tools, which are weapons that have cursed techniques imbued in them. However, a special grade cursed tool known as Playful Cloud is known to be the only special grade cursed tool that is not imbued with a cursed technique. Playful Cloud is a three-section staff that works like nunchucks. This particular weapon was used by many different sorcerers and the unique use of this weapon depends on how powerful the user is. The more powerful the user, the harder the blow is with this weapon, as the weapon enhances the user’s strength with its cursed energy. This weapon also made sorcerers who possessed less cursed energy but had immense physical abilities stronger.Playful Cloud was usedby Toji Fushiguro, Suguru Geto, Maki Zenin and Megumi Fushiguro.
There are also more mysterious and unique cursed tools that were shown in the series, and these include Miguel’s weapon known as, Black Rope. A weapon woven in Africa by a group of sorcerers, this cursed tool was so powerful it was able to cancel the effects of cursed techniques. Because of how powerful this cursed tool was, it was easily comparable to a special grade cursed tool because it was able to void Gojo’s attacks and also managed to physically hit Gojo. The rope, however, did not last long and was destroyed. Shikigamis were also able to use cursed tools. An example of this is Mahoraga’s Sword Of Extermination,coated in reverse cursed energy(otherwise known as positive energy). This weapon was used by Mahoraga against its battle with Sukuna and could have easily killed him if he was a normal-cursed spirit.
Weapons… Lots of Weapons
The first appearance of a cursed tool is shown when Gojo hands Yuji a short but wide dagger known as Slaughter Demon. Because Slaughter Demon was imbued with cursed energy, Yuji was able to exorcise a curse using it. Nanami’s short sword is also a perfect example of a cursed tool, even though the sword was blunt and covered in a cloth, Nanami was still able to use it to exorcise curses when it was imbued with his cursed energy.Cursed tools don’t always haveto be weapons. Maki Zenin’s glasses were also categorized as cursed tools because they allowed her to see curses. Yoshinobu Gakuganji, the principal of Kyoto Jujutsu High, used an electric guitar as his cursed tool and combined it with his cursed energy, enabling him to launch cursed energy in the form of guitar riff sounds and using himself as the amp. Nanako Hasaba uses her cellphone along with her technique, giving her the ability to manipulate whatever she captures with the phone’s camera.
Non-curse users are also able to use cursed tools and this is seen when Toji Fushiguro uses the Inverted Spear of Heaven, a special grade cursed tool that looks like an odd dagger but is heavily imbued with a special type of foreign cursed energy that avoids any technique it comes in contact with. This cursed tool is so powerful that Toji managed to bypass Gojo’s Limitless technique and stab him in the neck with a quick and swift motion. Toji alsouses other cursed tool weapons, such as The Split Soul Katana, which can be used to slice into the soul of any person or object, as well as the Chain of a Thousand Miles, which is a special grade cursed tool that allowed Toji to extend its length forever as long as the back of the chain was not visible. Toji was able to use his cursed spirit to store these cursed tools and pull them out whenever he needed them.
