Activision has confirmed that this year’sCall of Dutygame will bedeveloped by Infinity Ward, with reports indicating that the game will beCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, a sequel to 2019’sModern Warfarereboot. Fans haven’t seen anything official about the new game yet, and it may still be quite a few months before it’s shown off. While fans wait for official news onCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, or whatever it ends up being called, there should be plenty of “leaks” about it in the meantime.
There have been very accurateCall of Dutyleaks in the past, as well as “leaks” that never really panned out, so fans should take any information about the upcomingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2with a massive grain of salt. The latest leak stems from Twitter user Ralph, who has had a somewhat inconsistent track record when it comes toCall of Dutyleaks. In any case, their latest claim is pretty easy to believe, so it will be interesting to see if it pans out.

According to Ralph’s latest tweet, Infinity Ward is planning on remastering even more multiplayer maps forthis year’sCall of Dutygamethan was originally planned. These remastered maps will supposedly come fromCall of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the originalCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, andCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It’s not uncommon at all forCall of Dutygames to feature remastered maps, so this really shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans.
However, if Ralph’s information is accurate, the possibility of even more remastered maps to look forward to may make the game more exciting for fans. There were plenty of classicCall of Dutymaps that were leaked for the2019Modern Warfarethat never released, and so some fans have been waiting awhile to revisit those fan favorites. Many would be happy to revisit maps like Estate and Terminal, and while Shipment was featured inModern Warfareand popped back up inCall of Duty: Vanguard, it seems unlikely that there would be many complaints if it returned in the 2022Modern Warfare 2as well.
Ralph’s tweet also mentions Infinity Ward’s supposed plans to supportCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2longer than it did the 2019Modern Warfaregame. This would go hand in hand with rumors that the2023Call of Dutygame may be delayedto the following year, and that the franchise may finally be switching off from its annual release schedule, though Activision has denied those claims.
Microsoft is in the process of acquiring Activision Blizzard, and so the future of theCall of Dutyseries is very much in flux. For now, fans should treat these “leaks” with skepticism, even if they seem like a no-brainer.
