Madame Webmerch from overseas revealed Dakota Johnson in her spider suit, which may be featured heavily in theSpider-Man Universe movie, which releases on February 14th.
TheMadame Webtrailerrevealed that the movie will follow Johnson’s character, Cassandra Webb, a young woman who becomes clairvoyant. TheSpider-ManUniverse film will be an origin story exploring how Madame Web became a superhero. In the comics, Madame Web eventually becomes a mighty hero who borders on being a mystical figure, so it’ll be interesting to see what trials Web must go through to become such an individual. While the film’s trailer revealed the suits for other characters seen inMadame Web, the suit for Johnson’s character was kept under wraps until recently.
A Reddit post (viau/Matapple13) revealed Madame Web’s all-red Spider suit worn by Johnson. The promotional image that shows the previously secret costume was seen on an Ocean Spray bottle with what appears to be Mandarin letters. It’s not clear whether this product was released earlier than intended. Regardless, fans are probably excited to get a sneak peek at the newly revived superhero, who sports a costume relatively reminiscent of her comic book equivalent. Shortly after the leak, an internationalMadame Webposter was released, revealing a more detailed glimpse at every main character’s costume.
Fans have grown excited about the movie’s release, partly due to reports that earlyMadame Webscreenings were received well. A critically well-received release would be in contrast to recent Spider-Man Universe releases from Sony, with movies likeMorbiusandVenombeing panned by most critics. Some fans hopeMadame Webis the key to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe finally performing well. UnlikeVenomandMorbius, which both featured anti-heroes as their main characters,Madame Webwill feature a more traditional hero who begins the movie as a somewhat regular person, similar to other successful origin-story superhero movies. In addition to Johnson, the movie also features Emma Roberts, Isabela Merced, Adam Scott, and more.
ActressSydney Sweeney plays Julia Carpenter, an important character inMadame Web. In the comics, Carpenter becomes the second Spider-Woman before adopting the title and powers of Madame Web following Cassandra Webb’s death years later. 2024’sMadame Webwill presumably only follow the introductory days of the superhero, and it’s not yet clear how closely Sony plans to follow the comics. So, although fans already know that Sweeney’s character dons a spider suit thanks to the trailer, the character might be in for a significantly different ride in Sony’s movies.
