It’s not been a good couple of weeks forMarvel’s Avengers. Aside from garnering another controversy through the addition of paid XP boosters (something Crystal Dynamics initially promised it would never do),Eidos Montreal’sGuardians of the Galaxygamereleased and proceeded to garner a lot more favor with critics and fans. Square Enix itself has since admitted that the game has been a disappointment.

Things seem to be turning around a little bit forAvengers, however. For starters, Square Enix clearly recognized thebacklash towards the XP boosters, which many labelled as being pay-to-win items, and has actively removed them from the game. Now, after over a year of waiting, players have an exact release date for quite possibly the most anticipated addition to the game: Spider-Man.

Unfortunately, there’s still no gameplay footage ofSpider-Manin action (or even any images of cutscenes), but Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have confirmed that he will arrive as part of patch 2.2 on November 30. At the very least, details about Spider-Man’s unique story event have been shared, with it seeing Spider-Man team up with the Avengers to foil another AIM plot and taking the form of unlockable challenges.

Unlike the rest of the cast, Spider-Man will be insistent on keeping his identity a secret and will form some surprising friendships with Ms. Marvel and Black Widow while also struggling to work as part of a team after operating solo for so long. Whether Spidey will join up as a full-time Avenger is something fans will need to find out for themselves.

This update isn’t exactly good news for Xbox, PC, and Stadia players since Spider-Man will be a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 exclusive, which has remained a controversial topic since it was announced. On the flip side, Spider-Man isn’t the only thing included in the new patch. The other main addition is a new Raid against supervillain Klaw, who was introduced in theWar for Wakanda expansion.

The update will also increase the maximum Power Level from 150 to 175, as well as include a new Shipment feature. Shipments are items that can be purchased for 500 Units (Marvel’s Avengers’ in-game currency that can be earned just through play) and sounds like the game’s take on a gacha system. Each Shipment pulls from nearly 250 in-game items, such as cosmetics and resources, and even has a chance of containing a premium costume that can’t be obtained by any other means. This outfit can also be earned automatically after claiming 100 Shipments.

Marvel’s Avengersis available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
