Summary

Fans think that a majorMarvel’s Spider-Man 2plot point is hidden in an ad for a special edition PlayStation 5 console. Insomniac’s upcoming superhero epic was present and accounted for during this week’s San Diego Comic-Con 2023, with a newMarvel’s Spider-Man 2trailer giving players a closer look at the game’s plot and characters. Insomniac developers were also on hand to share insights onSpider-Man 2, including howveteran voice actor Tony Toddwas chosen as the voice of Venom.

While there is still plenty of mystery surroundingSpider-Man 2’s take on Venom (such as who will be the host of the monstrous symbiote), the game’s promotional material has been setting him up as the primary threat for Peter Parker and Miles Morales during their latest interactive adventure. Of course, before the alien symbiote becomes Venom, it first bonds itself to Peter in most media, andMarvel’s Spider-Man 2is adapting this plotline faithfully. PastSpider-Man 2gameplay trailersdemonstrated Peter’s new black symbiote costume and the brutal attacks it comes with, and some of the staff behind the game have teased how the suit’s corruption plays intoSpider-Man 2’s plot.

Now some fans are drawing theories about how Peter eventually rids himself of the symbiote thanks to an ad featuring the newly-announcedMarvel’s Spider-Man 2PlayStation 5 consolethat was also unveiled during the game’s Comic-Con panel. As noted by social media users like Twitter handle thevenomsite, Peter can be heard calling out to Miles for help as the symbiote seemingly covers the PS5 console. As Miles struggles to assist Peter, his signature Venom Blast electricity can be seen blasting the black ooze away, which has fans theorizing that Miles’s powers are used to free Peter from the symbiote’s control.

Further evidence for this theory comes fromSpider-Man 2’s tagline of “Be Greater. Together,” which also shows Miles’ electricity blasting away the symbiote at the end of every trailer it’s featured in. In theUltimate Marvelcomics that Miles Morales originally hails from, the Venom symbiote is indeed vulnerable to the younger Spider-Man’s electric powers, though their effectiveness against it has varied from source to source. Additionally, Miles is one of the few people who notice a startling change in Peter’s personality after he dons the Symbiote Suit, adding even more credence to the idea of Miles eventually helping Peter break free of it.

Of course, the audio used in the recentMarvel’s Spider-Man 2PS5 ad could be for any in-game situation, and might even be spliced together from multiple cutscenes. Still, its use in this trailer andMiles’ Venom Blast powersbeing such a logical counter against the symbiote makes a strong case for Miles being the one to help Peter remove the dangerous creature when the time comes, though fans will have to playMarvel’s Spider-Man 2for themselves to see if this does happen.
