Minecraftplayers have needed Paper from Sugarcaneand Bamboo for Scaffolding for a long while, but getting these green plants is a time-consuming task that can take far too much exploring at times. One of the most efficient means to obtain these materials,be it for Villagers, Enchanting, or Building, is to create an automated farm that will harvest both of these materials on its own.

How to Make a Basic Automatic Sugarcane and Bamboo Farm

To create the most basic form of this build, players will need:

For the first step, players should place the 16 dirt in 2 strips of 8, with a single block in-between. Surround these two rows of dirt with blocks on all sides, except for one of the smaller ends.Place the water bucket on the endthat has blocks surrounding it, and there should be no water leaking out of this structure. Place the Sugarcane or Bamboo on the dirt.

Minecraftplayers should then place another layer of blocks on top of the blocks that surround the dirt, as well as some blocks in front of the Sugarcane/Bamboo on the other end. These images use colored blocks and glass for visibility, but any blocks will do. Place a hopper at the very end of the water stream, and connect it to a chest, making sure the chest can still be opened.

On top of the building blocks in front of the Sugarcane/Bamboo, place a piston facing toward the water stream, with an observer on top. Make sure the “-_-” face of the observer is facing the sugarcane. Repeat this for all 16 pieces of Sugarcane or Bamboo.

Place blocks on the backside of every piston, then place Redstone on all of those blocks. The Redstone should be facing into the Pistons, meaning the Observers will power the pistons whenever the Sugarcane or Bamboo grows to 3 blocks tall.

Minecraftplayers can now build up the walls to 4 blocks tall total to ensure no items fall out of the machine. This machine will now produceas many pieces of green plant life forever. Bamboo does grow faster than Sugarcane, so players should be sure to have about 3 Sugarcane segments for every 1 Bamboo segment if they’d like to have an even amount of both.

How to Expand the Sugarcane/Bamboo Farm

Firstly, the storage can be expandedby placing down hoppers, facing in whatever direction the chests will be.

The chests can then be placed in front of the hoppers, and the Bamboo and Sugarcane will be funneled into the chests from the bottom up.

The first way players can add more segments to their farm for faster production of Bamboo and Sugarcane is by simply mirroring the design on the other side. They should also make sure that the water is still flowing into the hopper and acquire enough materials for the entire farm.

If players would like to expand the farm even further, they will need to expand upwards. This is done by placing a line of blocks in the middle of the farm, at the same height as the observers, leaving a hole in the middle for the items to drop into the hopper. They can then add dirt just above that line of blocks, in the same place the dirt on the bottom was.

The design for the farm can then be completely replicated on top, making sure the water flows into the hole in the middle and bringing more sugarcane and bamboo into the chests. As with any Redstone contraption, this farmis subject to eventually breaking, but for every recent update, it will function perfectly.

This farm is now completely functional and entirely expandable; players are able to make it as tall as they want for even faster Sugarcane and Bamboo production. This is great for any players who need easy emeralds or need tons of paper and scaffolding.
