After its launch in 2021, which was generally considered lackluster,Battlefield 2042has been receiving constant updates from DICE. New seasons introduced more maps, guns, and cool gadgets, focusing on improving the gamer’s arsenal and choices for multiplayer matches, which has been keeping the game alive so far, despite weak initial impressions.Season 4: The Eleventh Hour, the latest major update of the game, introduced the map Flashpoint. Now, YouTuber DANNYonPC recently shared theMirror’s EdgeEaster egg in one of his newestBattlefield 2042videos featuring content fromthe new 4.0.0 update. In the clip, it’s possible to see the player flying on a parachute in Flashpoint after dropping off from an airplane. To find the secret, they fall on top of a crane in the middle of the new map, which contains a pair of red shoes.
The couple of shoes in this specific location is a clear reference to the protagonist of theMirror’s Edgefranchise, Faith. Not only did she wear the same kind of red shoe, but also often employed cranes and similar objects to perform parkour tricks and jumps in the original title. Unfortunately, players can only keep hoping for therevival ofMirror’s Edge, and an Easter egg inside aBattlefield 2042map is all that the fans will get for now. Despite being considered a cult classic back in 2008 and receiving a prequel a few years later, the franchise was never as popular asBattlefield. Also, due to its constant updates, DICE has its hands full with the new seasons ofBattlefield 2042for now.
2023 is set to be a very important year for DICE’sBattlefield. WhileBattlefield 3and4were fairly big hits for the franchise, the following titles failed to garner as much praise from players, and withBattlefield 2042, EA is trying to undo the damage. During the year, the title will continue to receive support that will keep bringing weapons, vehicles, and maps, starting with Season 4, which is already out. Season 5 was already confirmed, too, but it does not have a solid release date yet.
Battlefield 2042is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
