Summary
A list of complaints always compiles with a new season ofFortnitedue to the different loot pool, tweaked weaponry, and changing meta. The most OP items inFortnitehave gained levels of infamy among the community, with some wanting these items nerfed or vaulted forever. Every recent season will always have that one item that players just hate, and considering the great power, it’s warranted.
WithFortniteBattle Royale challenging players for 7 years now, it’s time to look back at some of the most OP items in the game, and the season that they featured dominantly in. Whether they are weapons, items, or vehicles,Fortnitehas certainly had its fair share of infamous power that truly changed the game and called for quick nerfs.

Chapter 1 was a nostalgic time for many, and players of all different skill levels were thrown from the Battle Bus into the same map. Yet, with the introduction of the Drum Gun, that skill gap closed ever so slightly, due to the fact that this weapon was great in the hands of whoever wielded it. Considering it was so common, a fight without a Drum Gun would be truly impossible to win.
The Drum Gun’s original release in Chapter 1 Season 4 saw an extremely fast firing weapon with a headshot multiplier of 1.5x. The fact that the Drum Gun used hitscan rather than bullet drop meant that the recoil was so easy to manage, and shooting someone with such a high fire rate meant that they would be disintegrated in seconds. Even shotguns couldn’t counter the Drum Gun when it was released, due to its large ammo count, hard-hitting bullets, and deadly fire rate, creating a legacy weapon that had to be nerfed into obscurity.

For today’s players, the idea of a Guided Missile wouldn’t seem like much of a threat. After all, it’s slow-moving, and easily avoidable by just throwing up a wall and letting it explode. However, in the early days ofFortnite, hearing and seeing a Guided Missile hurtle towards its prey was like no other, as it moved almost at the same speed as players back in the day, considering there was no tactical sprint option.
Whilst the damage wasn’t the best against other players, structures would easily be instantly destroyed, leaving players without precious cover, since Season 4 had no Zero Build mode at the time. Guided Missiles could also easily navigate through windows and doors, tracking victims whilst keeping the player using it, hidden from sight.

There is perhaps no weapon as infamous as the Infinity Blade, something thatonly one player can have per match, and something everyone in the lobby is trying to get their hands on. The Infinity Blade was housed at Polar Peak in Season 7, and the entire lobby would drop down to try and unsheath it from the mountain. Yet, whoever was lucky enough to do so, would have power that would easily see themclaim the Victory Royaledue to their increased stats:
The infinity blade could easily destroy players and structures, massacring anything in its path. Thankfully, it barely lasted a week due to how devastatingly powerful it was, returning a sense of normalcy to Battle Royale, but the scars never went away.

There is perhaps nothing worse than dropping into a Battle Royale match, expecting a decently hard fight against other players, just for one of them to rely on an unstoppable mech suit capable of destroying entire POIs. B.R.U.T.E. was definitely something to fear and be annoyed at, as this mech suit was incredibly powerful and fast, capable of multiple forms of combat.
With an intense health pool, players would waste ammo trying to destroy it, as well as give away their position. The mech could stomp players too close, and shoot them with a shotgun. Try and run from it by building? Enjoy a barrage of missiles. Even if players manage to blow it up, the self-destruct can easily kill them. It was an incredibly annoying OP item inFortnitethat is thankfully gone.

Peter Griffin’s Medallion
A recent addition toFortnite,Medallions have been a part of the Chapter 5loot pool since it’s first season, and they have constantly run amock, yet never been nerfed. Medallions grant whoever wields them a unique advantage not seen by other players, allowing for further enhancements of their gameplay to complement them and aid in their skill through a variety of different methods.
Whilst Medallions provide players with an exposed radius on the map, it’s not enough to deter players from using them, as multiple medallions can certainly do plenty of harm to other players on the map due to their improved stats and perk bonuses not seen on the other 99 players.

Whilst the Pump Shotgun was lethal enough on its own for earlyFortniteseasons, some players discovered that they could wield two within the 5 inventory slots, and quickly switch between them to cancel the shooting animation. This meant that players could swap between shotguns, firing faster than any SMG could dream of, whilst also dishing out the most lethal and foul damage found in Chapter 1.
The Double Pump method was an evil meta that meant that any player could pick up two Pump Shotguns and devastate other players with body shots, or even better, headshots, which would provide a 1.85x damage multiplier. Thankfully, this method is impossible now, sinceFortnitehas a timer on players who attempt to switch shotguns after firing one.

Chapter 4 wasn’t exactly a fan favorite forFortniteplayers, but it had some redeeming qualities. However, these qualities are not found within the Shockwave Hammer, an item of Epic rarity that was not used for its intended purpose to damage others, but instead, one that was used to just run away constantly, andan item now vaulted.
The Shockwave Hammers would send players flying, and with easy use of charges and a moderate cooldown, players could blast off across the map to never be seen again, all because they got shot once. Shockwave Hammers were frustrating to fight, and their mobility made every fight a chase. If players used a Shockwave Hammer in combat, they would slam their opponents far away, devastating them in tight storm circles.

Chapter 5 Season 3 demands players adapt to the meta, and even those unwilling are going to have a hard time. In Chapter 5 Season 3, players are completely dependent on vehicles, and it’s not a good thing for those who just want to run around and shoot each other in Battle Royale. Relying so strongly on vehicle wars, players need to make sure their loadout is completely dependent onmaintaining their vehicles, making cars extremely OP in Chapter 5 Season 3.
The health of vehicles has been dramatically increased, meaning a squad of four is going to have a hard time taking out a car. Meanwhile, that can, with a Cow Catcher front bumper and a Grenade Launcher turret, is going to easily massacre the team of four thanks to splash damage and the power of running them over.
