The highly anticipated live-action adaptation ofMy Hero Academia, first announced in 2018, is finally getting more details and heading towards shooting. The iconic anime series has grown in popularity over the past decade with recent releases like the box office hit filmMy Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission. The next phase for the series is starting to come to fruition with some exciting news.

Deadline recently reported who will be directing the live-actionMy Hero Academiafilm: Shinsuke Sato. Sato is known for his work on live-action adaptationssuch asDeath Note,Bleach, andAlice in Borderland. With such an incredible reputation working on these anime adaptations, Sato is sure to provide an excellent new addition to theAcademiauniverse. Notably, this film will be Sato’s English-language movie debut, since the franchise has such a hold over Western audiences.

Unfortunately, no release date or any other details for the live-actionMy Hero Academiafilm have been released yet. However, should the project follow the storyline of the source material, it will center around Izuku, who will not be prevented from entering the hero academies just because he was not born with a “quirk.” Quirks, inthe realm ofMy Hero Academia,give characters various superpowers. Seemingly, the film will either act as a prequel or simply dive deeper into Izuku’s tumultuous back story. Either way, the film will certainly appeal to the series' fanbase and those already familiar with the story. Alex Garcia and Jay Ashenfelter will oversee the project for Legendary, while Ryosuke Yoritomi will do the same for the manga publisher Shueisha.
