As thehype around the new generation of Nvidia graphics cardskeeps building, more rumors and leaks about the Ampere powered GeForce RTX 30 Series continue to appear. The latest news suggests that the official announcement will be coming on September 9th 2020, slightly sooner than currently expected.
This new leak comes from hardware gaming site GamersNexus, who claim to have spoken to Nvidia board partners regarding the announcement date, which existing rumors had pegged just over a week later on September 17th. However, the official launch date has not been confirmed, so the latter may still be the date when the hardware actually becomes available to buy. The site also confirmed with board partners that the RTX 2070 Super has not yet been discontinued, but likely will be soon due to the new cards hitting the market.

The latest rumors still suggest thatthe launch of the RTX 30 Series range will be staggered, with the top-end RTX 3080 Ti and high-end RTX 3080 launching in September, the upper mid-range RX 3070 launching in October, and the more budget oriented RTX 3060 following in November. This follows a similar pattern to the launch of the RTX 20 Series in 2018.
The main reason the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 30 Series is generating so much hype, is the expectation ofmuch improved visuals and frame-ratesthat come with the latest hardware, two years on from the launch of the RTX 20 Series and one year from the launch of the “Super” variants. Current rumors suggest that these expectations will be met, with initial benchmark leaks suggesting a huge jump in performance, potentially as much as 50% over the equivalent current generation cards, with even bigger gains expected in ray tracing performance. However this extra speed is believed to require a significant amount of power draw.
Gamers eagerly awaiting the new cards should remember thatthe launch will likely consist only of the Nvidia “Founders Edition” models, and variants from board partners are likely to take at least a week or two to start hitting the market. Prices are yet to be announced, but as with all new generation graphics cards they are unlikely to be cheap. Unfortunately it appears there are few bargains to be had with the existing RTX 20 Series either, due in part to its continuing popularity with currency miners.
However, with the expected announcement and launch of the AMD Navi 2X range of graphics cards expected to take place before the end of the year, competition may push prices down before too long. Plus, with such significant performance gains rumored, the premium prices may just be worth paying.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 Ti and RTX 3080 are rumored to launch in September 2020.
