Blowfish Studios just announced its most high-profile game so far:Shadowman: Darque Legacy, a sequel to the classic game originally released in the late 90s. It’s fair to say that this is something nobody expected, as the franchise has been dormant for over 20 years, but thissequel has the potential to reinventtheShadowmanfranchise many years after its original launch.
The originalShadowmanwas acult classic from the late 90sand early 2000s. Based on a comic book series made by Valiant Comics, the game revolves around Michael LeRoi, an ex-English major who was turned into a voodoo warrior and needs to protect the world from dark forces. While the game received enough success to spawn a sequel for consoles a few years later and be remastered in 2013 for PC, the second one didn’t fare as well and the franchise was forgotten until now.

Shadowman: Darque Legacyhas been announced out of the blue this week by developer Blowfish Studios with a new trailer. The teaser does not show much, as there’s no available gameplay yet, but it does show a table full of things that sets the tone for the game. Some interesting items displayed on the table include a katana, cigarettes, some rings, booze, a skull, and a poster with the title “The Lead Belly”, starring Jack Boniface (the protagonist) on January 17. At the moment, it’s not really clear whether that date means something. The game’s release is set for 2024, and it’ll come out forPC(Steam and Epic), PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, but it does not have a specific release date yet.
In thissequel of the classic title, gamers will take the mantle of Shadowman Jack Boniface, who vowed to defend humanity against dark undead enemies from Deadside. He’s expected to face necromancers, cultists, demons, and dark abominations during his quest. According to the developers, the game will offer a “visceral, rewarding combat with deadly supernatural weapons,” which will be punishing, and an intriguing narrative. That pretty much sets it up asShadowmanmeets Soulslike combat.
Hopefully,Shadowman: Darque Legacywill be a hit or at least not a forgettable game. Recently, gamers saw manysequels to old games that did not disappoint. One of the best examples isStreets of Rage 4, which came out over 25 years after the last installment of the franchise and was able to keep the spirit of the series intact, at the same time that it modernized the gameplay.
Shadowman: Darque Legacywill be released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2024.
