Nintendo fans recently learned thatSuper Mario 64,Super Mario Sunshine, andSuper Mario Galaxyon the soon-to-be-releasedSuper Mario 3D All-Starscollection are emulated, rather than ported, versions of the titles. This has also led to a lot of discussion as plenty of series fans are frustration, contributing to the Gamecube’s Twitter trending status.

It’s not all bad, however. With the GameCube trending, many have taken this moment to sharesome of their fondest memories with the Nintendo titles, reflecting on past experiences with the games. TheAnimal CrossingCommunity Twitter account, for example, shared that today is the 18th year anniversary for the GameCube game. Other memories have been more general, like Twitter user CherrytonP5 sharing old McDonalds GameCube console set-ups.
With the release ofSuper Mario 3D All-Stars, fans have gotten a chance to look back at past Nintendo consoles and remember their experiences. Though the Nintendo GameCube is currently trending, the new release is likely to give many fans nostalgic trips back to the days of the Nintendo 64 and Wii as well.
With the realization thatSuper Mario 3D All-Starsis running emulated versions of the games, many players have begun to speculate what this might mean for the future ofSwitch Online services for Nintendo 64 gamesand beyond. Some fans believe that sinceSuper Mario 64is up and running on an emulator, this means that the console is bound to receive additional 64 games through its online service. Though this isn’t necessarily a guarantee, it is certainly a possibility.

While many fans seem to be annoyed at Nintendo for using emulation, others are undoubtedly excited to see where this emulation may end up going in the future.
