Video games have never been so important with theWorld Health Organization encouraging gamingto help people while they isolate from the coronavirus pandemic. It was unsurprising that video game sales saw a sharp increase when the pandemic was first being addressed and while sales have started to slow, new titles have managed to keep the market profitable. The top 10 games sold in June have some predictable chart-toppers but there are some surprising titles as well.

The NPD analyzes numerous markets and part of the analysis the company provides is on the sales of video games. While game sales dropped from therecord video game sales of Apriland May, June is still up 25% from last year with $1.6 billion spent. The games that inspired this kind of spending were an interesting grouping ranging from the dramatic to the socially gleeful, and towards the back end of the top 10 players will notice some titles that have been in the charts for a very long time.

At the top of the charts isThe Last of Us Part 2and this isn’t too surprising considering the title is a new release and has been the focus of a lot of attention. With that said Naughty Dog will likely be pleased thatleaks aboutThe Last of Us 2did not impact the sales of the game. As a result,Call of Duty: Modern Warfarehas slipped down one place and is now number 2.Animal Crossing: New Horizonsis also retaining a high position months after its initial release and is charting at number 3 once again.

Despite falling two positions it seems thatGrand Theft Auto 5still has a large appeal seven years after it was initially released. This may be because of additional attention afterGTA 5was announced for the PlayStation 5but it is also a testament to the enduring quality that Rockstar games have.

WithThe Last Of Us 2breaking sales recordsand reaching the top of the charts it will be interesting to see if other PlayStation exclusives can follow suit in the future. The highly anticipatedGhost of Tsushimahas been released this month, and with this in mind PlayStation may be able to dominate the charts in July. Equally the titles of Rockstar Games may creep up the charts yet again.
