It seems like companies and organizations all over the globe are starting to take extra precautions regarding the coronavirus pandemic as of late, like theNBA suspending its entire season. Now,Nvidiais another name among the list of those companies suspending planned events and announcements.
That list includes companies and organizations like the ESA,Call of DutyLeague, and Bandai Namco to just name a few. ThoughNvidiainitially wanted to shift its presence online following the escalated caution being taken for the coronavirus, it seems the company is going to postpone all announcements entirely.

Now that North America as a whole has started to escalate caution regarding the coronavirus, people everywhere are now self-quarantine in consideration of others. Even notable gaming companies like Nintendo of America andRockstar Games are having employees work from homebecause of the virus. It’s good to see companies take the initiative to attempt to minimize spreading the virus by having employees work from home.
However, this virus is undoubtedly throwing a wrench in a lot of very important business plans, costing money, time, and resources. For example, one of the industry’s biggest events,E3 2020, was officially canceleddue to the virus. Now, Nvidia is postponing many of its major announcements to help, “our customers around the world can focus on staying safe and reducing the spread of the virus.”
In a blog post on the company’s official website, Nvidia’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang wrote that the company feels that now isn’t the right time to share its new products or make announcements. Additionally, Huang writes, “Our employees are working from home. Many hourly workers will not need to work but they’ll all be fully paid.” This announcement comes right off the heels ofNvidia cancelling the Nvidia GTC conferenceand shifting it to an online-only format.
What seemed like a silver lining has unfortunately been put on hold for the time being. Interestingly,Call of DutyLeague also went online-onlydue to the coronavirus. However, it remains to be seen how the League will structure its competition online or if it will hold to that statement at all. While it’s disappointing that Nvidia won’t be announcing anything new in the coming weeks, at the very least it’s nice to see that the company is postponing these announcements out of consideration for its employees, their families, and those who have been affected by the virus.
