Summary
Netflix’s live-actionOne Pieceadaptation has some exciting developments in the works for season 2, and it looks like one character in particular may enjoy a bit of an elevated role this time around. It may be hard to imagine the surprise hit show getting even more electrifying after its stellar first season, but how else could a proper pirate story go?
One Piecehas been one pleasant shock after another, from its excellent fight scenes to its gorgeously authentic visuals compared to its manga and anime inspiration. That’s not even to mention thesurprisingly sad moments inOne Piece. But this is a show based on a wildly popular anime, so one thing fans can expect is more action, and that’s what’s coming in season 2. One character in particular will see some satisfying developments on that front.

Japanese actor Mackenyu, who plays “Pirate Hunter” Roronoa Zoro in Netflix’sOne Piece, recently spoke to fans at Comic-Con Arabia. During his appearance (as shown via theOne PieceNetflix FanTwitter account), he teased what audiences can expect when the show’s second season finally makes its way to the streamer. Obviously, as one of the main characters in the series, Zoro will see plenty of more action. But Mackenyu also seemingly suggested that his fight scenes will see a bump in quality this time.
“Expect a lot more in Season 2, including better action fight scenes from Zoro.”
One Pieceseason 1 followed the series lead Monkey D. Luffy (Iñaki Godoy) as he began building his own pirate crew in his quest to find the fabled legendary treasure known as the One Piece. Thanks to stretching powers gained from eatinga mythical devil fruit, he becomes a force to be reckoned with on his own. But each crew member still gets their own time to shine, including the guarded thief Nami (Emily Rudd), embellishing marksman Usopp (Jacob Romero Gibson), and charming chef/martial artist Sanji (Taz Skylar). This is doubly true for Zoro, who strives to become the world’s greatest swordsman as a promise to an old friend.
True to that goal, Zoro faced Dracule Mihawk, one ofOne Piece’s Warlords of the Seawho made deals to hunt down their fellow pirates. Unfortunately, the fight didn’t turn out as he’d hoped, leaving the young swordsman clinging to life as Mihawk requested a rematch when Zoro became stronger. It wasn’t his only big fight in season 1, but it was his most important, and it was just as fun to watch as one would expect from such an intense character moment. With Mackenyu’s words at Comic Con Arabia, things will seemingly crank up a notch in season 2 from even there. Zoro will get stronger, and with great strength comes even cooler fights.
There’s a lot for fans to look forward to, including more iconic moments from the anime adapted into live-action and even the possibility of the legendaryJamie Lee Curtis joiningOne Piecein season 2. However things go, it’s clear that this series realizes how important it is to see these characters develop. Zoro has a long road ahead of him, but it will be enjoyable for the audience.
One Pieceseason 2 currently has no release date. Season 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
