One Piecehas no shortage of powerful characters who became famous by completing tasks that were deemed impossible. Among them, the name of Gol D. Roger manages to stand out. Roger started his crew with the purpose of turning the world upside down, and it’s fair to say that he was successful in doing so.
Roger not only sailed the entire Grand Line, but he also found the One Piece. During his voyage, Roger attracted the attention of other adversaries who tried to sabotage him. While Roger steamrolled over most of them, there were a few rivals who managed to give a proper fight.
6Sengoku
Former Fleet Admiral
Sengoku is among the most respected Marines. He joined the organization along with Garp and Tsuru. All three of them rose through the ranks quickly, and they were given good positions. Sengoku became an Admiral and then the Fleet Admiral, which highlights how much the organization trusted him.
Sengoku ate theHito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu, a Devil Fruit that allowed him to turn into a giant golden Buddha. In his fully transformed form, he could emit shockwaves from the palms of his hands. These were strong enough to counter punches from the Gura Gura no Mi. Sengoku and Roger were not fierce enemies, but the latter mentioned him as the only other Marine after Garp who could capture him.
5Big Mom

Big Mom was another famous pirate from Roger’s era. When she was still a child, Big Mom was deemed to have enough potential to become a Fleet Admiral. Big Mom joined the Rocks Pirates at some point, and she sailed with them until their loss in God Valley.
Big Mom possesses the Soru Soru no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that gave her the power to control souls. She obtained the Devil Fruit after a rampage, which resulted in multiple deaths. Big Mom was far more athletic in her heyday, and she arguably had more stamina. Her dream was to claim the One Piece, and she even managed to get her hands on a Road Poneglyph. Roger thought it was better to obtain a copy secretly without having to fight her. This implies that he was aware of Big Mom’s threat.
4Shiki
Shiki was the captain of the Golden Lion Pirates. He used to be a member of the Rocks Pirates, so he was involved in the God Valley Incident, where hefought against the Roger Piratesand the Marines. After Shiki started his crew, it didn’t take long for him to gather new allies, and in a short time, Shiki became the leader of a massive pirate armada.
Shiki knew about Roger and even tried to form an alliance with him. However, Roger turned down the offer, which led to the Edd War, in which Shiki and his armada were nearly destroyed. Shiki didn’t resurface again until after Roger was captured. After hearing the news, he decided to go to Marineford to challenge the organization, but lost to Garp and Sengoku.

Monkey D. Garp is a Vice-Admiral who is nothing short of a living legend. He was known as the Hero of the Marines, so he was treated with the utmost respect by everyone. The epithet was given to Garp after hetook down the Rocks Pirateswith the help of the Roger Pirates.
Garp did not have a Devil Fruit, so he only relied on his Haki in fights. He possessed all three types of Haki, and he had a great degree of control over all of them. Garp and Roger fought each other multiple times, and they came close to killing each other. Despite the fact that Roger and Garp were always at each other’s throats, the two had profound respect for one another.
2Whitebeard

Before starting his own crew, Whitebeard traveled with the Rocks Pirates. He was possibly Rocks' right-hand man, and he ensured that the crew stayed together. Like the other members, Whitebeard left the crew after the God Valley Incident.
Whitebeard possessed the Gura Gura no Mi,a Paramecia-type Devil Fruitthat allowed him to create tremors. This power earned him the title of “Strongest Man in the World.” With the Devil Fruit, Whitebeard could destroy an entire town with a single punch. Roger and Whitebeard fought several times, but there was no animosity between them. In fact, they respected each other and, on several occasions, were seen drinking together.

Rocks D. Xebec was thecaptain of the Rocks Pirates. He was a man obsessed with power, and he was willing to go to any lengths to obtain it. Rocks was very likely on the lookout for powerful individuals who would join his crew.
Not much is known about Rocks, but according to Sengoku, he was Roger’s biggest rival, even more so than Whitebeard. Rocks was presumably very strong; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to keep a band of ruffians under control. Roger and Rocks fought during the God Valley Incident. While the exact details of their battle remain unknown, it is safe to assume that they were neck and neck.
