2022 was a competitive year for the high-end PC market, with the introduction of the RTX 4090 and 4080 along with AMD’s reveal of the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and XT.Origin PCis no stranger to taking the latest and greatest from team green and team red and crafting some of the mostpowerful and reliable gaming PCs on the market; however, with AMD now being far more competitive in the CPU and GPU space than ever before, the market for full-on AMD PCs specifically has never been better.

Game Rant recently had the opportunity to receive a full-on AMD prebuilt PC, otherwise known as an AMD Advantage Desktop, from Origin PC sporting a customCorsair5000D case. After testing, it’s clear that Origin’s high-end red team builds are well worth the money if customers have the money to spare. 4K gaming at high refresh rates doesn’t come cheap, and at a baseline price of over $4,000 USD, the 5000D AMD Advantage is certainly for a select few who need the best of the AMD side before making the jump to Nvidia and the RTX 4090. However, it does slightly underperform against users with the same hardware.

Origin PC 5000D AMD Advantage: Specs and Build Quality

Our AMD Advantage prebuilt included the following specs:

Unlike many pre-built gaming PCs that customers can find at big box retailers, Origin elects to use non-OEM parts and instead sources components that would otherwise only be found by users building their own PC. The result is a computer that is premium in every sense of the word and, more importantly, reliable and replaceable. This PC’s case, power supply, and motherboard all have more than enough slots, expansion bays, and power to fuel almost any upgrade or addition that users would like to make. Our Asus ROG Crosshair motherboard, in particular, has a great cooling solution and two extra PCIe slots for sound cards orcapture cards.

Origin also did not disappoint with the actual assembly of the whole PC. All the computer’s cables have been properly routed into the side panel, allowing for excellent airflow throughout the interior of the chassis. Moreover, everything has been secured in place without the use of glue or other adhesives. Additionally, the cable management around the back looks great, which is important for anyone that would need to tinker with these cables for any reason. Users will likely not have a difficult time pulling out whatever cables they need to find. Origin also included a few extra PCIe and SATA cables in case users ever expand their PC with a new GPU orSSDs.

Origin PC 5000D AMD Advantage: Performance and Gaming

For performance testing, 3DMark’sTime Spy Extremebenchmark offered a thorough look at where this PC stands in terms of power. InTime Spy Extreme, the Origin PC scored 24,686, which is impressive but also underperforms compared to the average score of 26,256 from users with the same hardware. It was unclear what was holding the 5000D back from reaching higher scores, but a lower-clocked Radeon RX 7900 XTX could have been the culprit. Regardless, that score still puts the Origin AMD Advantage in the 98th percentile of all PC users–and when it comes to gaming, that 98th percentile truly shows.

For gaming benchmarks, the Origin PC AMD Advantage ran through some of most demanding PC games out right now at both 1440p and 4K. TheRadeon RX 7900 XTXcertainly has more than enough power to fuel 4K gaming, especially with FSR enabled. However, with the large and still growing market of 1440p high refresh rate monitors, 1440p testing felt more appropriate because there will certainly be gamers out there that will be able to max out those panels with these PCs.

Origin PC 5000D AMD Benchmarks-1

Our benchmark suite consisted of Remedy’sControlat max settings,Hogwarts Legacyat max settings in the intensive Hogsmeade area,The Witcher 3’s DirectX 12 update fully maxed in the city of Novigrad,Red Dead Redemption 2at a maxed out “Favor Quality” preset,Assassin’s Creed Valhallaat Ultra High, andCyberpunk 2077at Ultra. Additionally, we elected to only look at raw rasterization performance over ray tracing performance and did not use AMD FSR for these tests.

At 1440p, the Origin AMD Advantage easily breezed past 120 frames per second in most games besidesHogwarts LegacyandThe Witcher 3DX12. However, it should be noted that both of those games were in the most graphically and CPU-intensive sections of the game. In other areas of the game, bothThe Witcher 3andHogwarts Legacyregularly cleared the 100 fps mark. Additionally, we start to see that games likeControlandAssassin’s Creed Valhallaactually start hitting CPU limits at this resolution.

Origin PC 5000D Fans

At 4K, our results get less CPU bottlenecked, and we see that our 7900 XTX really shines at this resolution. With the exception ofThe Witcher 3,every game in our benchmark suite cleared the 60 fps mark. In two cases, stand-outs likeRed Dead Redemption 2andAssassin’s Creed Valhallasurpassed 100 fps. With the use of AMD FSR, these frame rates can get up as high as the 1440p benchmarks, and there is also AMD’s upcoming DLSS 3.0 competitor to look forward to. As far as 4K gaming is concerned, the Origin 5000D should be more than suitable for most if not all 4K panel owners.

Origin PC 5000D AMD Advantage: Noise and Thermals

All of that performance will come at the cost of power, heat, and noise, all of which our Origin PC AMD Advantage managed to handle very well. OurRyzen 9 7950Xcomes equipped with a Corsair iCUE H150i Elite Capellix Liquid CPU Cooler, which looks great and, most importantly, keeps the noise and the temperature down. Throughout our testing, we only ever saw the 7950X reach a high of 81 degrees Celsius when pulling a max of 153 watts during the most CPU-intensive tasks and tests. Otherwise, the CPU ran a much cooler 70 degrees or lower, depending on the game.

Meanwhile, our Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 XTX also performed extremely well under load. Throughout our testing in3DMark Time Spy Extremeand across all gaming benchmarks, the card only ever reached a maximum of 58 degrees Celsius while pulling a full 350 watts. The Sapphire’s three-fan design and hefty heatsink certainly go a long way in mitigating heat, but it’s the case’s six-fan intake system that feeds plenty of fresh air to the GPU and really helps keep temperatures down. Overall, the 5000D was exceedingly cool and incredibly quiet.

Origin PC 5000D User

Though clearly great, it can be hard to recommend the 5000D AMD Advantage to most gamers besides those that can spend top dollar for one of the best PC configurations on the market right now. However, those who can spare the money will find that it is well worth it. Origin PC’s pre-built gaming PCs are generally great and high quality, and this one is no different. However, we can really only recommend this PC for 4K gamers or high refresh rate 1440p gamers. Pairing any of these machines with a 1080p panel would simply be a waste of money.

The only true disappointment that came from our 5000D AMD Advantage was that it slightly underperformed in synthetic benchmarks. While not a huge deal, at this price point, it would have been nice if this PC was closer in score to most other users with similar hardware. But synthetic benchmarks do mean almost nothing in the grand scheme of things, and when factoring in the 5000D AMD Advantage’s gaming performance, thermals, and noise levels, this is undoubtedly a premium PC worth the price tag.
