TheOverwatch 2Battle for Olympus event concluded on January 19, with Junker Queen earning more kills than any of the other heroes. Keeping withOverwatch 2Season 2’s Greek mythology theme, Blizzard released a special limited-time mode that gave various heroes on the roster mythological makeovers and tweaked their abilities.Battle for Olympus gave Junker Queen a Zeus-inspired makeover, turned Roadhog into a cyclops, andoutfitted Ramattra with a new Poseidon-inspired look. Other heroes got similar makeovers, and were tasked with battling it out in Free-for-All Deathmatches. Blizzard kept track of every kill that each hero earned while the Battle for Olympus limited-time event was live in the game, with promises to give the top-scoring hero their own statue on Ilios.RELATED:Overwatch 2 Reveals Lunar New Year PlansAccording to Blizzard’s data,Junker Queenwon the contest with 43,461,573 kills. Trailing fairly far behind Junker Queen was Damage hero Pharah, who managed to crack 40 million but was still trailing Junker Queen by an eye-watering 3 million kills. Despite fan efforts to boost Lucio to the top of the leaderboard, the popular Support hero only managed to take third place by the time the Battle for Olympus event ended. The lowest-scoring hero was new Tank hero Ramattra, who only earned 25,521,055 kills.
In its tweet announcing the winner, Blizzard referred to the event as the “first annual” Battle for Olympus, suggesting that it will be a new yearly event forOverwatch 2. Unless Blizzard decides to rerunSeason 2’s Greek mythology theme, though, it may be a bit odd for Battle for Olympus to make a comeback. And if the event returns, does that mean yet another statue is going to be added to an existingOverwatch 2map, or will the Junker Queen statue be replaced? Finer details like this will likely have to wait until next year, if and when Blizzard decides to bring Battle for Olympus back.
Fan reaction to the Battle for Olympuswas not particularly positive, and so some may be confused why Blizzard would want to bring it back at all. It seems many fans were not happy with Battle for Olympus for various reasons, with some going as far as to accuse Blizzard of rigging the competition so that Junker Queen would win no matter what. Regardless, it will be interesting to see whatOverwatch 2Season 3 has in store, and if it is able to deliver new content that is better at getting fans excited about the game than Battle for Olympus was.
