Overwatch 2released a stunning anime-style video featuring Kiriko. The 45-second clip showed glimpses of the hero’s childhood with her kitsune spirit companion, and her present life as a ninja.
Kiriko was revealed as one ofOverwatch 2’s newest heroeswhen it launched last October. She is a kunai-wielding Support hero who can heal allies, as well as climb up walls and teleport to the nearest ally. Her Ultimate ability, Kitsune Rush, summons her kitsune spirit to buff her teammates' movement speed and reduce their skill cooldown timer.

In her gameplay trailer, Kiriko talked about growing up in a family of healers and fighters, and how she chose to combine both practices.Overwatch 2fans got a glimpse of the hero’s past life in the short animation titled “Protector.” It shows Kiriko entering her hometown of Kanezaka, where she gets a flood of memories from her childhood. In them, she reminisces the time she spent with her family and friends, fellowOverwatch 2heroes Hanzo and Genji. The latter is also seen giving Kiriko a kunai. The clip then flashes back to Kiriko fighting members of the Hashimoto clan.
The shortOverwatch 2animation was produced by ENISHIYA Inc., the same studio that made theanimation for Ed Sheeran’s “Celestial.“Players seem to love the video, saying it looked “amazing.” Many also expressed that they want anOverwatchanime featuring Kiriko and her friends. While others took the opportunity to raise their concerns on some ofOverwatch 2’s ongoing issues.
Kiriko’s cute design, along with having a spirit companion, seems to have made her a favorite amongOverwatch 2fans. Also, this isn’t the first time she was drawn in an anime style. Recently, anOverwatch 2fan made chibi-style Kiriko sprays and emotes, which are available in their Etsy page. Others also shared various fan art of Kiriko and her kitsune spirit.
As for whetherOverwatchwould ever get an anime or TV show adaptation, there are still no news about it officially happening. Back in 2016, Blizzard co-president Stacey Sher said it was a possibility. But as of writing, there doesn’t seem to be any updates. WithOverwatch 2providing more hero lore, many fans think it’s the perfect time to explore them in a TV series. Only time will tell ifOverwatchwill expand into TV territory, or it will just stick to releasing cinematic trailers and animated shorts.
Overwatch 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
