Overwatchhas made changes to its characters on a regular basis since launch, as the Blizzard team attempts to make the hero-shooter as balanced as possible. One character that has seen quite a few changes over the years is thetank hero D.Va, who may actually be getting another buff as part of an upcoming update to the game.
According toOverwatchdeveloper Josh Noh, the game’s developers have tested a cooldown reduction for D.Va’s boosters. The team tested a three second cooldown for D.Va’s boosters, which currently have a five second cooldown at the time of this writing. “It sounded kind of intimidating on paper,” Noh explained, “but in practice hasn’t been that crazy and allows D.Va to play the midfield more freely, which works well with the current 10 meter Defense Matrix range.”

Fans won’t have to wait long to find out for themselves if the D.Va buff will be overpowered or not. Noh said that “some version” of the D.Va buff will be in the next PTR cycle. If it’s determined to be broken or overpowered in the PTR, then it’s possible that the D.Va buff will not make it to the actual game.
Besides D.Va, it’s likely that otherOverwatchcharacters will be changed in future updates. One that may also be in the next PTR cycle is the proposedBaptiste nerf, which should make the healer character a little less overpowered. Blizzard has been testing changes to Baptiste’s Immortality Field, as many players feel it’s way too overpowered in its current state. This has resulted in less variety when it comes to healers on any given team, as many teams are running with Baptiste.
How exactlyBlizzardwill change Baptiste’s Immortality Field isn’t as clear as how the company will change D.Va. What is clear is thatOverwatchwill constantly be getting changes to its characters, from buffs to nerfs to full-fledged reworks that fundamentally change the way they play.
However, most characters will likely only get buffs and nerfs instead of reworks. As it stands, only a fewOverwatchcharacters have gotten reworks, with Symmetra having being changed the most drastically since launch.Drastic changes like Symmetra’saren’t in the works for D.Va as far as we know, but maybe that could change in the future.
Overwatchis out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
