PUBGpublisher Krafton is funding the production of a veritable competitor toEscape From Tarkov, the infamously hardcore extraction shooter from Battlestate Games. WhileTarkovdid partially compete with regular battle royale titles at first, the game has carved out a niche all its own since 2017, and other developers are now attempting to bank on the formula as well. The development ofEscape From Tarkovis, admittedly, rather slow at times due to its mechanical complexity, which leaves plenty of room for other projects to make themselves known too....

The legislative arm of the European Union vowed to take on loot boxes and “gaming addiction” in a bid to protect children and other online players against a variety of digital harms as part of a new report that was adopted with a large majority vote on Wednesday, January 18. The same report also reconfirmed the EU’s commitment to continue supporting video game developers and publishers across the political bloc. As such, this move dovetails with the European Parliament’s late 2020vote to increase investments in the gaming industry....

For a small cabal of die-hard book fans, theHarry Pottermovies were an unmitigated travesty. From illogical plot changes (how will Harry find the diadem if Ginny hides the Prince’s book?) to minor aesthetic alterations (Barty Crouch Junior’s hair color is supposed to be “sandy”), the movies seemed to disregard the text entirely. It might get even better if Square Enix Japan shows up withFinal Fantasy 14: Endwalker,Final Fantasy 16,Forspoken, and perhaps a word onFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2. It’s all quite exciting, and there’s sure to be a huge influx of trailers, announcements, and footage for the gaming community to chew on for the next few months....
