The PlayStation Store is running an end-year sale that has heavily discounted many games, including the controversial 2019 gameAnthem. Many other games are heavily discounted on the PlayStation Store for the sale, but few are available for quite as low as a price asAnthem. The deal ends on January 19, so anyone interested in buying the game have a few weeks to do so.

Prior to its release, there was a great deal of hype forAnthem, mainly due to the legacy of its developer, BioWare. But whereas BioWare’s previous games were mostly single-player action-RPGs,Anthemwas a co-op focused third-person shooter that had players fly around in Iron Man-like mech suits. Unfortunately,Anthemfailed to meet expectations and was heavily criticized at launchby fans and critics alike. This resulted in lower-than-expected sales and ultimately, the game is considered a flop.

It’s likely that this incredibly low sale will do much to revitalizeAnthem’s online multiplayer servers. BioWare once had ambitious plans to essentially rebootAnthem, but those plans were scrapped years ago so developers could focus on new games from the studio instead. Bycanning the so-calledAnthem 2.0project, BioWare was able to reallocate its resources to new entries in its established and popular franchises.

Next up from BioWare isDragon Age: Dreadwolf, the fourth installment in its successful dark fantasy RPG series. And after that, BioWare fans can look forward to anewMass Effectgame. Details on both these projects are relatively scarce at the time of this writing, but more information on both should come to light in the year ahead.

Anthem’s commercial failuresmean it’s highly unlikely BioWare will ever pursue a sequel. For now, anyone that wants to see whatAnthemwas all about can do so for next to nothing, but only while this PlayStation Store deal is still live.

Anthemis available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
