Game Freak has given fans now a couple ofPokemonregions that are based on different countries from around the world. The original four regions (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh) were all based on different parts of Japan.

However, this trend finished whenPokemon Black & Whitewas released with the region of Unova taking inspiration from the USA. Each mainline new generationPokemongame came with a new country that the region was set in.Pokemon Scarlet & Violetkept up with this, with Paldea mirroring Spain. The question now turns to future iterations of the game and what country will come next as a basis for a newPokemongame.

10Greece

A region based on Greece would certainly be interesting, Greece is a country with a rich history. Many people know of Greek mythology and that could certainly be the basis for the main storyline of the game. An Olympics theme could be used for gym battles, similar to the trials inPokemon Sun & Moon.

Greece’s national animal is the dolphin and this game could bring life toFinizen and Palafin, the latter has an interesting form change in battleand this could be adapted to fit Greece turning him into a Greek god as opposed to a superhero. The main legendaryPokemonfor this game could also take inspiration from the gods with the main ones being based on Zeus and Hades.

9Italy

Another country with a rich history, the Roman Empire could form the basis of the story with the evil team based around the legionnaires of the Empire. With a goal to bring back the old ways of the region through the use ofPokemon.

Gladiator battles could be used as a fantastic method of batting, with the latest battle feature being armoredPokemon(taking the place of TerastrialPokemonofScarlet & Violet). Another idea that could be implemented is the change of picnics, instead of making a sandwich, gamers could instead cook up pasta, fitting with the theme of Italy. Maybe a reference to a certain Italian plumber could also be included?

8China

China has an insane market for media, with record-breaking sales for movies and games regularly coming from the country. Game Freak should capitalize on this and have a region based on an Asian country like China.

Red Gyrados In The Anime

China has a rich history, and many fables and myths could be used as inspiration for newPokemon, moves, and storylines. Gyarados' design is based on a Chinese dragon and the water/flying type could play a big part in this China-based region, perhaps finally getting that dragon typing through a regional form.

7Brazil

Brazil is known for its carnivals and this could bring a bright and exciting look to the potential generation 10Pokemongames.The carnival could bring backPokemoncontests to the gamewith the dress-up and dancing element of the generation 3 gimmick being reminiscent of the carnival of Rio de Janeiro.

The games could bring the contests to new life and the developers could make use of the motion elements of the Nintendo Switch and get gamers up on their feet to compete in the competitions. The Amazon rainforest could also be a massive element of the game, perhaps aPokemonbased off of capybara.

Pokemon Contests

6Egypt

Following the trend of countries with rich histories, Egypt certainly is among that category. The Pyramids of Giza are a staple of the country, the mystery of how they were built is very much studied to this day. The gods of Egypt could become the legendary and mythicalPokemonof this region.

Lucario is already based on Anubisand it could receive a fresh regional variant that has a more traditional Egyptian look to it. Each gym could be a pyramid increasing in size and based around an individual god using the more mystical types like Dark, Psychic, Ghost, and Fairy.

5Central Africa

Central Africa is known for its wildlife, with African safaris being very common in this country. Giraffes, lions, wildebeests, and elephants make this continent’s savannahs their homes. Girafarig, Pyroar, and Copperajah could all have new regional variants and the savannah could be used as a new form of a safari park.

Although there is no specific country for this region, the wildlife and culture of these African nations could be molded together to create some interesting ideas for a potential future installment of the franchise.

4Australia

Australia is known for a good deal of unique wildlife, Kangaroos, koalas, Wombats, and Wallabies are all native to the Oceanic country and all could become amazing designs for potentialPokemon. The Platypus is a real-lifePokemonalready, the animal lays eggs, produces poison, and appears to be a cross between a duck and a beaver. It is about time fans received aPokemonjust like this beloved animal.

The Aborigine People of Australia could be used as inspiration for the art and style of the game, perhaps the didgeridoo replaces the Poke Flute? There are endless possibilities for an Australia-based region, maybe New Zealand could feature in a DLC?

3Mexico

Mexico is known for its food and the camps introduced inPokemon Sword & Shieldcould be switched to incorporate a burrito in this Mexican-themed region. The Aztec gods and structures will add an ancient theme to the game and maybe the game’s villain will be aPokemonbased around Huitzilopochtli, the main Aztec god with the goal to end the world using his evil team as his minions.

The Mexican national animal is a Jaguar and there isn’t aPokemonbased around this animal, a grass/dark type would work best as they stalk their prey in the dark depths of the jungle. Costumes for the trainers could include sombreros and ponchos and the day of the dead festival could mean some interesting ghost-typePokemon.

2Scandinavia

This region is not based around a specific country, but rather, the lore around Scandinavia is transferred to multiple of its countries. The Vikings are a big part of its history, maybe the game’s setting is back in time during the age of the Vikings and the goal of the game would be to conquer over parts of the game throughPokemonbattles.

Norse gods could be the inspiration for the legendaryPokemonand thePokemonLeague/final town could be based around Valhalla. Lynx, Moose, and Beavers could all be newPokemonfor the game.Stantler could receive a new form, and evolve into a powerful MoosePokemon, which is the national animal of both Sweden and Norway.

1Peru

The rich history of Peru could provide the background of a greatPokemongame, and Peruvian flute bands could provide the music adding a different feel to the games. Guinea Pigs are rife in Peru andthe animal could become the Pikachu clone of the region, maybe an electric/groundPokemon.

Easter Island is a part of Peru and the heads could form an interesting element to the lore of the game, replacing them with legendaryPokemon. Maybe a regional variant of Golurk could be an inspiration for the heads. The beautiful Rainbow Mountains of the country could be a fantastic area to traverse and explore adding some colorful rock and ground types to the franchise.
