ThoughBrilliant DiamondandShining Pearl, the remakes for the fan-favorite Generation 4 games, were still relatively new and popular among the community when the new year began, they didn’t have the spotlight for very long before the next new title from Game Freak hit the shelves.Pokemon Legends: Arceuswas a massive hitamong the gaming community at large when it first released, priding itself on developing a new and refreshing experience for players while immersing them in a largely open world set in thePokemonworld’s ancient past. The influential new gameplay features introduced inPokemon Legends: Arceuswere further developed in the debut Generation 9 titles,Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which have dominated social media since they arrived in November.

APokemonenthusiast by the name of Opposite_Village9112 on Reddit showed off their method of celebrating the year through a post on the site. The attached image featured the player’s Christmas tree this year, decorated generously withPokemon-related items such as Poke Balls and adorable plushies of Pokemon including Weavile, Gible, and Smoochum. The tree even features a plush of Rayquaza,the legendary Pokemon of the sky, who is fittingly positioned at the very top of the tree.
The recent launch ofPokemon Scarlet and Violethave marked the beginning of a new generationofPokemongames, and despite their much-criticized performance issues and abundance of glitches, the games have undoubtedly done much to reignite creativity and interest among thePokemoncommunity. Many players of the new games have actually found themselves enjoying them more than they anticipated, with some even going as far as to crown the Generation 9 titles as their new favorites in the entire series thanks to the rich story and major strides in gameplay mechanics.
Pokemonfans with more of an interest in the anime series have also had a lot to sink their teeth into lately, with thePokemon Journeysseries recently concluding along with the announcement of Ash retiringas the show’s protagonist after 25 years. While fans of the animated TV series can still look forward to one last short series focused on bidding farewell to the character, fans of the games and anime alike all have plenty ofPokemoncontent to look forward to in 2023.
