Despite several generations ofPokemonreleasing sincePokemon Red and Blue, a fan has designed a Poison-type regional variant for Gen 1 Pokemon Shellder and its evolution. Nintendo has accumulated fans of its many popular franchises, with each having fan art communities celebrating the various games from the publisher, and that’s no different with thisPokemonfan.

WhenPokemon Red and Bluewere released back in 1996, they ushered in a new group of Nintendo fans that express their creativity through fan art about the games. Although Shellder and Cloyster have been part of multiple generations of games,Pokemon Scarlet and Violetare lacking regional variants of the Water andIce-type Pokemon. Inspired by an alternate typing for the two aquatic Pokemon, one fan has shared an image of their alternate take on Shellder and Cloyster that share some similarities while shaking up the design of the two Pokedex entries.

Reddit user M0pan has garnered 4,100 upvotes on theirPokemonfan art showingPokemon Scarlet and Violetregional variantsfor Shellder and Cloyster which shifts their color scheme. While the standard Shellder and Cloyster Pokemon are different shades of purple and black, M0pan’s take on the Gen 1 Pokedex entries turned their design into something that would feel familiar in the Paldea region. Shellder is significantly more colorful than usual, with a shell that is mostly white, with purple and light blue highlights, and a tongue that blends the three colors together between two sets of fangs protecting the Pokemon’s face.

Swapping the Water typing, M0pan’s creation is Poison and Ice-type which is emphasized by the spiky aesthetic of both Pokemon reflecting poisonous creatures in real-world oceans. M0pan’s Cloyster has a cone shell design rather than a clamshell and the face protrudes slightly more than the originalGen 1 Pokemonunderneath a spike that’s part of a shape that’s “optimized for stabbing” according to the fan artist. Akin to the tongue of M0pan’s Shellder, this Cloyster’s spike is dripping with color, potentially emphasizing the Poison-type nature of the regional variant for the Pokemon.

Because Shellder and Cloyster haven’t seen changes to their design like other Pokemon have in the forms of regional variants, Gigantimax forms, and Mega Evolutions, somePokemonfans have been hoping for something like M0pan’s fan art. Given that each generation sincePokemon Sun and Moonintroduces a new way to change up existing Pokemon, it’s possible that these wishes may come true infuture mainlinePokemongames.
